This was our first trip to Amsterdam, and what a perfect place to stay to enjoy it. The hotel has a huge and beautifully refurbished open lobby area housing a comfy lounge and the main restaurant. Whilst the lobby has a modern, almost industrial feel to it, the rest of the building feels much more 'Hogwarts' as you wander through the corridors and along the staircases. You'd be forgiven for thinking you were in an old school building for wizards!
The room we were in had high ceilings, and huge windows which spanned the full height. The ceiling was so expansive, it even had space for a separate floor level. It certainly had a wow factor when we first walked in, the downstairs housing a modest living room and spacious bathroom, with a small staircase taking you up to the sleeping area. The room also had a second bathroom on the bedroom level which we didn't realise was there until our second day as the walls were so flush. It was a fun surprise when we got back and the staff had left the 'hidden' door open so we could spot it!
For sleep, the bed was super comfortable, with an airy duvet and plush pillows, ideal for a good nights rest. Especially handy after some over indulgence on one evening :).
The spa wasn't available when we stayed so unfortunately we didn't get to try that (an alternative was offered but it was a cab ride away so skipped that until next time). We tried the inhouse restaurant Taiko and had some amazing sushi, and in the morning the breakfast options in the brasserie covered almost everything you might want to have.
In terms of location, it was ideal. With easy access to town and various sights of the city a short walk away. We learnt to keep a sharp eye out for bicycles whilst we were out and about. The city certainly lived up to its reputation - every road is like a small motorway for bikes and they move fast!
Awesome city, and fantastic hotel. Thanks to the wonderful staff for making our stay a great one! :)
