Noisy Hotel room in drunken Amsterdam

Review of Rho Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Apr 2024via mobile
The hotel is located in the center of the city near Dam square. This location offers close proximity to the tram, central train station and attractions. However the area is very noisy. The AC system is not turned on until May so you must open a window, directly propagating the noisy of the drunk streets below. Getting any sort of restful sleep is a challenge. The hotel room is clean the rooms are dated the bathroom showers look like prison showers. They charge a premium for the night, however I do not think it’s worth the money they charge.

Location is good but that’s about it. Room is very dark. Asked for a quiet room and they gave us a room where we hear all the street noise. Internet does not work in the room. Towels thin and stained. Dirty old carpet. Unforgettable bed and pillows. I do not recommend.

Room tip: Very noisy hotel

The Rho hotel is SO CLOSE to everything! The Dam, less than 2 minutes away. Close to trains, clean, convenient. Beautiful court yard. Excellent staff. The stained glass atrium was a work of art onto itself! So happy it was not destroyed in WW2! Strongly recommend! Thanks so much!

Room tip: A good, safe to stay. Now get out and do something!

If you have paid over £100 a night to stay at the Rhio, you would expect two minimum basics - the ability to make a cup of tea or coffee in your room when you wake up and - later- the ability to see in your room in the evening. The lights are so dimmed I couldn’t read and, when I asked for a kettle for the morning, I was told with great indignation, if you want tea, come for breakfast. I have never been in even a basic hotel where you can’t make tea in your room. What use is the fridge in my room?? I am not storing chilled food!
Yes. It’s central but come on????

The pictures on the Website are very misleading. They appear bright, and upbeat. They are actually incredibly dark, dreary and downright depressing. Keep in mind that we looked at 4 rooms as we were staying 8 nights and we booked it based on the pictures that they use on their Websites, though the pictures they used on other platforms were just as misleading. The room with 2 walls of windows was nice just noisy. At night even with all the lights in the room turned on you could not read a magazine that was printed on colored paper as the room was too dark. We wear a lot of dark colored clothes when traveling and it was impossible to find anything easily in our suitcases as the room was so dark that all you could see was a dark pile even though our clothes were neatly packed we had to use our phone flashlights at times to make it easier. We had a superior double room and in the entire room it had 1 outlet that we could use to charge our devices. The people in the room before us figured out you could unplug the T.V to have an additional outlet which took us a while to figure out why the T.V. didn't work!! We would not stay again or recommend it.

Room tip: Consider a different hotel to stay at unless you don't mind a poorly lit room.
