Really outdated hotel

Review of Rho Hotel
2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Aug 2023
Really outdated hotel.. rooms need a major revamp. The hotel staff are lovely but hotel isn't the best unfortunately.
We are both covered in lots of bites we think from the bed.!!! Really close to the centre though just not comfortable.
Date of stay: August 2023
Room Tip: Rooms and bites from the room is the major down point.

My friends and I hadn’t booked our accommodations for Amsterdam after leaving Tomorrowland in Belgium and I was looking late at night for something central. I found Rho to be in a good location and within my budget so I booked for three nights. I arrived on the 24th after leaving Tomorrowland in Belgium. There were two agents working the front desk when I arrived. The one in the line I was standing in told me she would be right with me. I barely waited three minutes and Andrea checked me in seamlessly! She was very kind and professional, making pleasant conversation as she escorted me to the elevator. She shared some interesting history on the hotel and gave me a few helpful hints for getting in and out depending on the time of day. They can keep your key for you at the front desk if you don’t want to risk losing it while exploring Amsterdam which I thought was a nice touch! I opted to be on the square side and Andrea gave me a fair warning that there would be trucks loading early in the morning but I could barely hear them. I left my windows open most of the time and enjoyed the buzz of Dam Square which is just a stone’s throw away. The few other times I saw Andrea she greeted me with a warm hello, or have a great night on my way out.

After two nights in the hotel I decided to extend my stay. Ingeborg was very helpful and again, made my extension so easy. Sometimes you have to check out and back in and that wasn’t required. A quick tap of my phone and I was set. She also assisted me with getting a bandaid for a nasty burn I got in London a week prior. She cut up a larger bandaid for me that would fit my finger better and also so I would could reapply throughout the day. Small detail but It’s the little things. I felt safe, staying alone on that part of town and had the best interactions with the team members working.

Spaces:
My room, although on the smaller side had everything I needed. A bathtub, closet space, desk, bed, tv and credenza. I could see right down an adjoining street right off Dam square but I still felt as though I had privacy. Double lined curtains helped so I could sleep in. The temperature was perfect and the bed itself, very comfortable.

The lobby was spacious with plenty of seating and although I did not opt for the breakfast I checked it out and saw an abundance of options for diners.

Complimentary coffee is offered 12pm-10pm and there are vending machines with drinks, snacks and toiletries.

There are brochures and travel guides available at the front desk for site seeing.
If you’re looking for brand new fixtures and luxury upgraded aesthetics, Rho is not necessarily the first pic. What they lack in upgrades, they make up with real hospitality and the best location. My four friends and I all got our own hotels in different parts of Amsterdam and when they saw mine they said I had picked the best and I agreed!

I personally manage Luxury hotels- and it’s turned me into a bit of a critic but I would 100% stay at Rho Hotel again and highly recommend to all travelers.

Room tip: Best value by far!

Hotel staff were lovely, couldn't have been more helpful. Vending machines also great to have in hotel. Room size was average. Wasn't massive but no complaints. Location is amazing !!! Just off a little street & your basically in dam sq. great as everything is in walking distance. My only let down was selection at breakfast wish there was more selection. We ended up eating out for breakfast. Would definatly book to stay again when i come back as

Room tip: Would book without breakfast selection isnt much & we ended up eating out in the morning. But dont let that put you off as location amazing

Stayed for 4 nights. Fantastic location. Staff at reception very pleasant. Rooms small and badly in need of renovation. Big bathrooms, but shower was a Health and Safety problem... had to climb right into the bath, and very slippy!!
Beds were comfortable. Fridge in room and a safe:-)
Didn't do breakfast there so cannot comment.
Overall very expensive, but location so good....decide for yourselves

Room tip: Ask for the quietude of the hotel for a relaxed evening/ night

My wife and I recently stayed in this hotel where is very central. There are places to eat and pubs to drink in near by which is very handy.
While the hotel is a little outdated,it is very clean and the staff were really nice and helpful.
Rooms are spacious and the bed very comfortable.

Room tip: No kettle in the room but there is a free tea and coffee machine downstairs.

We spent 3 nights here in May, cost 1,104 euros. Seemed very high for what we got, our centrally located rooms were much nicer for less in Paris, Rome, and Bologna. Maybe it's just that Amsterdam is more expensive than Paris, etc.

Our first night our room's wifi, phone, and refrigerator were broken. After a bit of a hassle the next morning we were moved to a room on the 2nd floor which was incredibly noisy --- loud street noise even at 2 AM on a week night.
The dark hair woman at the front desk (manager???) was rather unpleasant. Told us usually wifi is excellent, just the last several days there have been problems.-- that wasn't mentioned when we checked in. When we asked for a quiet room she said you're in the center of the city so you can't expect quiet.
Our hotels in Rome and Paris were both in the center of the city BUT they had double glazed windows so were quiet, not noisy.

Except for this one woman all of the staff was excellent.

Room was clean, large, bed was comfortable, very little lighting so it was difficult to read at night. No picture on the wall, very few plugs. Bathroom was old but ok, very limited toiletries, I've never seen such a tiny bar of soap.

Leaving the hotel take a left, about a block away is an excellent restaurant.
