Where to stay in Amsterdam. What a winner!

From the time I arrived at Reception and was greeted by Dulce and Yamiek, who gave such wonderful customer service. Listened to my situation and then offered great solutions and really took care of the situation.

Stella was also great in assisting with my booked tours and best way to get there and was interested when I was talking to her to assist with her advice.

I did go up to Level 11 Luminair and was greeted by Peter who also gave such a warm welcome, that I returned each night and then lunch on my departure date. Peter showed great skills of customer service and definitely shows he enjoys his job.

These people made my stay so enjoyable and I send my many thanks.

I would also like to send special thanks to staff greeting at Breakfast on Level 1 and staff within, the food was always hot and presented so lovely and the housekeeping staff, my room was so clean and lovely. Much appreciated.

This hotel is perfect for a visit to Amsterdam! Minutes away for Centraal Station! Has a nice concierge lounge (if you need to wait for your room to open). Breakfast Buffet was great with lots of options! Our room was perfect with a great view. Make sure you go to the roof top bar!

I really wanted to love this hotel because the location can't be beat. It's right next to the main train station, so it was super easy to take the train inside the airport right to the hotel and walk over to the hotel. It's also easy to walk to a lot of places in Amsterdam from the hotel or take a train/tram from the train station if you go further out. But that's were the pros end. They are renovating and instead of putting a big sign up that the lobby bar entrance is now the main entrance, they have you walk around the whole hotel only to get to the front door being closed off due to renovations and you have to walk all the way back to the lobby bar entrance. When we got to the front desk, it took quite a while to make it to the front of the line. The Hilton honors line was actually slower than the normal line. We got one of the two rooms we had booked, the other wasn't ready, no big deal. At least we thought. Well, other rooms wasn't ready until 17:30, way past their check in time. They gave us drink tickets to the breakfast place, which was a waste, because we already had free breakfast because we are Diamond/Gold members. No recognition of our status by the way. Our keys to the rooms stopped working the next day. I understood for one of our rooms, because it was two separate reservations, but the other room was one reservation for two days. We ended up stuck in the elevator because you need a working room key to use it and we had taken it up with somebody else who had swiped their key so we didn't realize our keys were not working until we got up to our floor. When you use the stairwell you end up in the employee area with no signs on how to get back out into the lobby. Our rooms were looking out onto the train tracks and you could hear the trains. In the evening they shut down one elevator just for use to the roof top bar. You need reservations to get up there, it has an amazing view and great cocktails though. For some reason, while I had made reservations for the roof top, they cancelled them saying it was closed for renovations, which it was not, another show of unorganization at this hotel. The breakfast restaurant is a little of a mess, they have two fancy coffee machines, but maybe they should just have some basic coffee pots, because the lines were insane and one constantly had no cups. One nice surprise was the dinner restaurant. There was a storm forecast one evening and we unexpectedly stayed inside the hotel for dinner. The huge windows were great for watching the storm roll in and the food was very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
All in all, the hotel seems to have a lot of unexperienced staff and are trying to live off of location alone.

Room tip: Don't get a room towards the water, loud. Online check in useless, two rooms next to each other were not what we got.

Some things about our stay were excellent. The bar manager Hasib, as well as all the staff at Iluminair went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and make our stay more comfortable.
Timothy, at the concierge desk was also wonderful.
Our 3 star rating is due to the housekeeping issues we had. We were here for a week. One day, we chose not to have our room cleaned. 3 out of the remaining days our room was not cleaned. They have 2 door tags. One says you don’t want your room cleaned that day, the other says “ later please- do not disturb”. This is the one we placed on our door every day except the first. After being out all day we returned to a room that had not been cleaned. The first time we complained, went to dinner and returned to a clean room and a letter notifying us that they had entered our room due to a hotel policy that if your room is not serviced in 48 hrs. they enter your room to check it. Why the letter? You just cleaned my room after I complained 2 x’s that you had not cleaned it! The 2nd time, we complained and we were told they would “ try” to get it cleaned. Someone came, and cleaned the bathroom. We asked her about the bed and she made it, but made it clear she was not happy about it. The third time we complained and asked to speak to a manager. The front desk clerk said she could help and again said she would try to get the room cleaned. We said try was not an option. We went to dinner and then went to the front desk and again requested to speak to a manager. Kimberley came out and apologized. She said it was because we had a do not disturb sign on the door. I pointed out that they have 2 tags to put on the door and except for our first night we had used the one that “ later please”. They should not have that if they aren’t going to come later. We always removed it before leaving the room and it was always in the morning!
Kimberley was nice and apologized,but you should not have to beg for your room to be cleaned!!

Room tip: Staying on the 11th floor gives you amazing views, but access via the elevator is limited once the bar Iluminair is open at night.

Not good service for honor members.
I arrived at the hotel asking for help to book a room and the front desk staff didn't care about it.
The lobby was crowded and noisy.
I didn't feel welcome and I went to other hotel with better quality-price.
I got a nice view paying much less in a quieter area.
I put 3 stars just because of its location.

Just wanted to reach out and say what a valuable team member that Christina is for this business. She is the smile that greet many people when they come for breakfast and she manages the entire buffet. We have had a great time and enjoyable breakfast. Thanks to Christina and vegan and gluten-free selections that they offer in the breakfast buffet at the Doubletree
