Very nice and clean rooms. We were sitting with a bigger group in the bar and were served very attentively.
Breakfast was good and in relation to the price.
An extra plus is the parking place under a roof. Due to the snow, this was specifically helpful.
My husband, our daughter and I booked this hotel for 2 weeks.
The location is great: close to railway station, bus station and city center.
The staff is friendly.
The cleaning up after breakfast or just having a drink and a snack is really slow.
We had a drink, went out for dinner and two hours later, the glasses were still on the table how we left it.
Table is right in front of the window.
Bar service isn't really quick either.
The bitterballen however are delucious: you have to try them, yummy!!
The outdoor seating area also needs more attention regarding cleaning, also the footpath: cigarette buts etc.
I can't understand why some people don't use the provided ashtrays.
We enjoyed the room size and the bathroom!
A suggestion to update the entrance, bar and breakfast area:
get rid of allthe artificial, outdated vases with flowers and replace them either with living plants or fresh colorful flowers.

Hotel is in a good location within walking distance of the main station and the town centre.
There was a big group of us as we were there for West Ham’s game v Alkmaar. The check in was very friendly and efficient and the room was a good size with a very comfortable bed. Bathroom a very good size with a great shower.
I would have given this maximum stars but we specifically asked what time the bar closed when we checked in. We went out for a few drinks and as we were told the hotel bar closed at midnight we returned about 11pm to have a couple more and by this time there was one man on reception and he said the bar was closed. There were quite a few West Ham fans who would have spent quite a bit of money but he was adamant he was just security and not a barman. This was the night before the game so we checked again next morning and were again told midnight. When we got back from the match absolutely dying for a drink, the bar had again closed at 11. Very disappointing considering it is a very nice hotel.
Strategic location between Alkmaar central station and the city center, both are in about 500 mt walking distance. Friendly staff both at reception and breakfast. Two things I particularly appreciated:
1) the reception team had well noted my previous requests of having glutenfree breakfast as well as an early check at 1 pm and had my room key ready upon arrival, which was great
2) as during check out, the receptionist on duty was on the phone, another staff member stepped in and avoided long waiting time by checking me out.
If I go back to Alkmaar for hiking and need a hotel close to the station again, I will definitely consider staying at Amrath again.

The main reason of my review is for a staff member at reception that his name is John working on the 6th of October at 12 midnight , the hotel offers zero beverages in the room and when we asked to buy some bottled water he was very rude and declined to assist us , everything in Alkmar is closed at midnight and a simple request for water is not something out of the ordinary, he was very rude and spoke to us with an angry attitude. Will never stay here again with such unprofessional staff.
