Stayed here for my birthday weekend because I wanted an escape.
Very clean, very spacious room, courteous staff.
But the real highlight of this hotel is that it’s an old prison turned into a hotel.
Situated very close and even in a park, so one can easily enjoy the calm of the surroundings and also beautiful nature walks.
The downside to this is that if you are on foot it puts you far from the middle of town.
A cosy hotel in a green area close to the city center!

Prison hotel with a very warm atmosphere. Staff were very pleasant and the room was very nice with comfortable beds and a great shower, but.....nothing to hang your clothes and/or towels (?!) Breakfast buffet was very good, but it gave a bit of a chaotic feel and why did the coffee machine need maintenance during breakfast?
There was one bit of a let down in the shape of the 2-course dinner, included in the deal; starter was fine, but the main course, shoulder of veal with vegetableS (plural !!) proved to be a smallish bit of meat, one asparagus, one anorexic carrot and 5 whole peas. For a smallish portion of chips - not included and biological - we had to pay 5 euro < huhhh ?? Just as well we don't have a big appetite, or we would have gone to bed hungry.
formerly a prison, the hotel is unique. The rooms are former cells, and the doors are still the same as before at prison time.
The whole cell block has been conserved, so you feel really like in prison, but with the charme of an hotel. The rooms are very comfortable, the beds are new and the mattresses are very good. The bathroom is well equipped, and have an italien shower.
The restaurant invites you to a nice meal. It has not a Michelin Guide star, but the cook is a star himself. His creations are being worth to get a star or to be at least recommended by the Michelin Guide.
The staff is very friendly, nearly always with a smile. You can feel, they are passioned by their job and like, what they are doing. They are doing everything to make your stay unforgettable.
There is a big terrace to have your drink, or in the lobby.
You´ll like your stay.
The Alkmaar city centre is just 15 walking minutes away. A nice park and a lot of bike pathes are just beside to enjoy your outdoor activities.
Must be the safest hotel ever as it is situated in a former prison.
Just opened in June 2020 stay forever.
Nice rooms unfortunately they removed the bars in the windows.
Food is good, nice and friendly waiters.
