Fantastic location by the lake, comfortable

Review of Hotel Europe
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Jul 2023
Totally solid stay, and very affordable.

I had a 20 hour layover from Rome on the way back to the States, and wanted someplace easy to get to from the airport and close to the lake so I could take a long walk on a balmy summer eve before the long flight the next day.

Location: one block from the lake and one block from the opera house. Amazing area for strolling, and 4 min walk from the Stadelhofen train stop, which is an 18 min direct ride to the airport. Felt extremely safe late at night (although is this just Zürich in general?).

Room: a single room with a twin bed on the 2nd floor, the window overlooked the street (my room was just above the Hotel Europe sign) and had a lovely tree to dapple the sun. Pleasantly quaint, super clean, felt almost Viennese in style (that chandelier!). Bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom and shower - while modest - was very thoughtfully designed. Water pressure was great.

Service: front desk was extremely polite and helpful, gave me a small piece of paper with instructions on how to get back to the airport in English! Danke, Hotel Europe!

I'd definitely stay here again if I'm ever passing through Zürich!

Charming smaller hotel with lots of character. Very good staff (everywhere) and wonderful breakfast. It’s an older hotel so it has fewer facilities, such as not many power sockets in the room, but internet connection was good. No tea/coffee making facilities or fridge in the room. It has its own style and made a nice change from bland chain hotels.

Room tip: Few power sockets, no kettle and no fridge in room but good internet.

Arrived for Valentine’s Day …a little late due to flight delays but the Hotel Europe kept in touch and delayed out dinner at Max & Otto. The food was superb and recommendations for wine were perfect with each course. Breakfast was lovely, a little two tier cake stand of cheese, meats and pastries with the addition of fruit and eggs if required.
Location is excellent for town, just a short stroll into the old town and across the bridge into the main shopping area.
The rooms are a little basic but clean and comfortable. They could do with a bit of a refresh but perfectly fine for what we needed.

We had a great stay here twice. Beginning of this month one night then left part of our luggages here (which we did not need for this leg of our journey). They not only stored it but by the time we came back it was put into our room which was clean charming and they never charged us for this storage. We came in the morning but our room was already ready so we could have a leisurely lunch and go to our tour in the afternoon after refreshing ourselves.
I love the bathroom with the blue and white.. it’s just lovely.
We got extra blankets and the usual extra condiments like catchup and Mayo came just because they new we came from California. They gave us butter with the bread which is not customary here in Europe at all. We also got ice for the drinks.. so whatever we wished for it was there without asking. Wow.
They sell tram tickets too so we did not have to go get them first some otter place.
Good service, charming people and lovely rooms. Happy… we are definitely happy with this hotel.

Lovely respite in ideal Zurich location! We stayed upon arrival in Zurich for a week of Swiss travel and returned before our flight back to US. Such a warm and pleasant place to stay, just around the block from the lake and within walking distance to the Stadelhofen train station. They kindly arranged for early morning taxi when we departed.

We stayed here for only 1 night and can recommend this hotel to anyone who yearns for a bit of real European nostalgia. Our room was impeccably clean and had wonderful upscale local Swiss amenities, an adorable old-world balcony with a view of the beautiful Zürich opera house, and original antique furniture and fittings. I was especially delighted that we were given a real key and not a key card!
Check-in was quick and friendly. Although the reception area is small there is enough staff to help you with everything and to answer questions.
The elevator is modern and always arrived quickly but the staircase is accessible and gives you an old-world feel.
The bathroom was spacious and lovingly decorated with perfect water pressure, pristine Swiss tap water, and luxurious towels.
The location of Hotel Europe couldn’t be better! It’s right next to the lake of Zürich, countless restaurants, and the trendy Seefeld neighborhood, not to mention a very short walk away from all the shops and Zürich’s “old town”.
Breakfast was good. Don’t expect a huge factory-like buffet. The gipfeli (croissants) were top-notch, as well as the local butter and cheeses. It offers everything most people need for a healthy start to the day.
We didn’t eat at the restaurant but did enjoy an outdoor aperitif served by a friendly, funny, and professional waiter.
All in all, a wonderful choice!
Tip: if you're an early riser like I am, buy yourself a ready-made cold coffee that's available at all Swiss supermarkets to keep in your room overnight so that you can have your coffee first thing in the morning. Breakfast starts at 8AM. There was no coffee machine in our room - don't know about the other rooms.

Room tip: Balconies are always nice !
