What I'll remember most from this stay is Angela's graciousness and generosity. Since I was traveling alone with my young son (under age 2), she actually came to the Montreux train station to pick me up and help with the bags and stroller!
At 17m², the studio is obviously compact. For such a small space it had everything I needed - small fridge, microwave, Nespresso-type coffee machine, more than adequate for a short stay. The apartment itself is crisp and clean with a funky African decor. The spotless bathroom has a tiny sink and a very nice shower with jets all over the place. Lots of fun for my little boy. The flat had all the amenities I needed, notably the basic kitchen essentials as I mentioned before - so we could at least have breakfast without going outside - and wifi. She offered use of the washing machine, but we did not need it during our three-day stay. Angela also gave me full use of the very nice "summer kitchen" and the attached dining area, which were separate from the house in the front garden. The kitchen was fully equipped and she offered to let me use (or eat) anything in there, making me feel instantly at home. It was in the lovely front yard with great views of the mountains and lake. A couple of things to note is the access to the apartment is through the main front door, so access to the flat is not separate. That said, I never saw anyone else going in or coming out although I could hear the front door opening and closing from the flat. It's an old Swiss country house, so this was far from shocking and didn't bother me. It can only be expected. Also, the window is rather small, so the view is limited as the studio is on the ground floor.
Be warned, the apartment is NOT in Montreux as indicated on the Trip Advisor map at the time of writing. This was unclear on the site, and she assumed I had the address, which was hidden from me on the site. It is in a tiny, quiet and safe hamlet called Chamby, which is technically part of Montreux, but actually a 15-minute train ride (or 5-minute drive) up the mountain. There are trains every hour, so it took some planning, but the train ride on the Golden Pass line was so gorgeous, it was a pleasure to take. It offered daily excitement for my little one.
Angela's understanding about traveling with young children was truly priceless, and I'm very grateful. In so many ways, she made sure I felt welcome and no pressure. She also provided a baby bed and booster seat. Perfect!
The apartment is more than adequate for people who don't mind the small space and appreciate being away from town. I imagine it would be ideal during a big event like the summer jazz festival. And with la bella Angela as a hostess, you're guaranteed a pleasant stay!
