Located next to Old Town Basel, the University and Hospital makes getting to local sites easy. However, the only available parking is city parking, making it about a 5 minute walk to the hotel from parking.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, but finding your room can be challenging. Since my wife has limited mobility, I ask for a ground floor room. This was a mistake, because to get to the ground floor room we needed to take the small elevator up two floors walk through a corridor with steps up and down along the way, then walk down a flight of stairs, with a final set of 5 or so steps down and up again before getting to our room. Therefore, I recommend requesting a room in the main building if you want to have easy access to/from the room.

Room tip: for easy access, requst a room in the main building.

The hotel is a good value for the money and provides a clean and suitable room. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The location is great -- vey close to the university and a short walk to the old town. Most sites are within a 1-2 km walk with many (e.g., Spalentor) just a few blocks. The breakfast is not included and was just ok in my opinion. I have generally had better in most European hotels. The in-room was minimal and there is no in-room coffee. I would stay here again, but I would also consider upgrading if my budget allowed.

We spent 5 night here in the beautiful old town of Basel. The location is super, very quiet and peaceful but only a short walk from he town square ,some lovely shops and great restaurants.
The staff were very friendly and keen to help and the room was spotless.
Highly recommended and we would be delighted to return

Spent a night in this hotel and enjoyed ourselves all the more knowing we had an excelleent hotel to come back to..the hotel staff was beyond helpfull,,they guided us, informed us and were there to answer any question we might have. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable,,,you woke up to an church bell going off at 7am so there is no need for an alarm. There were lots of places to eat near by aand of course a market and lots of classic to modern shopping very close..i truly recomend this hotel. They have a large breakfast menu,,,( not included ) and also have a nice quaint courtyard so you can sit outside if wanted.

The 2 rooms we had were wonderful. Although they were close to each other, they were in 2 different buildings. One building was old (and quaint) and the other was newer and modern. Both were lovely.

One amenity was the public transportation pass we each got for the entire time of our stay. We used those passes maximally.

The parking was public - several blocks from the hotel - but the walking exit/entrance to the garage was across the street from the hotel. It sounds weird, but you'll know what I mean if you stay there.

The staff was extremely helpful and kind.

Basel was expensive but a great place to stop for a couple of days on our way to Italy. And Hotel Rochat was great.

Room tip: Personally, I liked the older building as opposed to the newer one. It had more charm and character. Also, have a few Swiss Francs.
