We were catching a river-cruise ship in the morning and picked this hotel for its proximity to the river. We were not here long enough to either enjoy a breakfast or the nearby amenities and attractions - so my input is for the room only. Unfortunately, when arriving by private car, you can not park nearby or be dropped off in front. Only cabs & taxis can get close! We had to walk 2 blocks dragging our suitcases over cobblestones because google maps sent us to the wrong place.

Room Tip: Try a room upstairs - more noisy closer to street level. No A/C = keep your window open.

Dear Richard S
Thank you for rating us. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by Basels traffic regulations. As a Hotel guest you are ALWAYS allowed to drive in front of the Hotel.
Best regards

My husband and I spent two nights in this well-located, comfortable hotel and would recommend it to anyone passing through Basel. The staff were helpful and accommodating--we couldn't have asked for better service! Though small (as others have noted), the room was very pleasant and had nice amenities; the bathroom had a lovely bathtub, unlike many other European hotels where we've stayed. We loved being just a block from Market Square and a short walk to most of the major sites of the city. Take advantage of the free tram tickets and the discounted city bus tour available at the hotel. The hotel is close to restaurants, tram lines, cafes, and the tourist information office.

[My one complaint is that the beds have a duvet but no top sheet, which seems to be the custom in Europe. Therefore, covers are all or nothing, and you're either too hot or too cold when the weather is in between.]

Hotel Basel is ideally centrally located for seeing all the sights that Basel has to offer. The hotel is well maintained and the staff is friendly, helpful and truly interested in making you stay pleasant. The room was somewhat small yet very comfortable and designed efficiently. Bedding was crisp and luxurious. Mini bar was stocked with beer, water and refreshments with no charge for consumption.

I stayed in a single room for one night. Location is fantastic, staff is very friendly and breakfast was sufficient. Downsides were tiny room and lack of toiletries; they only had all-over (body and hair) shower gel (no shampoo, no conditioner). I certainly think this should not be the case.

We had a lovely time in Basel visiting with friends. The hotel is central and an excellent base to see the city. Close to great restaurants. We had a great welcome on arrival. The staff were excellent. The room was great and we had a good night's sleep. The hotel restaurant was very good. I would definitely stay here again.
