I got a room on the third floor that had a view of rooftops. No big deal for me though. I liked how the room was clean and modern. The glass, barn doors for the bathroom was nice. The room didn't smell like smoke. I found the breakfast to be on the expensive side though. Other than that, I would stay here again.

Centrally location about 10 mins on the tram from the central train station. Had a free transport pass from the hotel which was great, included the airport bus. We had a very good deal which included breakfast so for us the value for money was fine but I could see why if you were paying full rate you may not think the rooms were worthy of the cost.

In terms of the rooms, they are large and have everything you'd need including tea and coffee facilities and TV with decent channels. Decent shower pressure and the ones not facing the road are very quiet and comfortable. Also a free minibar which includes water, coke and iced tea which is a nice touch. The rooms are however in need of a full refurb, they've had a sort of partial upgrade - TV, sofa, some of the fittings but the quality of the bathroom and the windows/furniture/aircon suggests that they originate from the 1980s so not at the cutting edge of design you'd find in a lot of Radisson Blus. The aircon itself wasn't really up to the job, it was warm when we were there - low 20s in the day, and the aircon just could not get the room cool. Opening the window worked but for some reason there was a smell of sulphur coming from outside for most of the day (linked to the health club perhaps?) so you had a choice of being cool but with a funny smell or warm.

Breakfast selection great, eggs to order, lots of hot food as well as continental, cereals, fruits etc. Great start to the day. Sometimes difficult to communicate with the staff - they didn't seem to really understand English which was unusual as everyone else in Basel were fine - and although the hot plate kept the plates very hot, the actual breakfast dishes were at best luke warm which let down an otherwise superb breakfast.

Health club was nice, very large well kept indoor pool with sauna and steam room......be careful of the local rules - no clothes in the sauna or steam room! Gym seemed to have enough stuff to give you a good workout as well.

Reception very pleasant and helpful and most of the staff we encountered were friendly.

Enjoyed Basel, the zoo was very good, amazing how close you can get to the animals - seems a lot closer than you can in the UK. Cathedral area was also nice and we enjoyed going into Germany then France and then back to Switzerland as our little tour using the tram (be aware that the walk from France back to Switzerland is longer than it looks, probably better jumping on the 613 bus back to the tram station!)

Restaurants that we enjoyed nearby - Union Diner for a quick slightly upmarket Burger and Chips, Schnabel for authentic food without breaking the bank and Molino for a pleasant Italian.

Location - city centre, walking distance to main restaurant & nightlife area in minutes
Transport - tram stop is 20- 30 steps away and runs every 10 minutes, taxis always available outside, free shuttle every 45 minutes to Novortis campus (must be reserved in advance)
Food - didn't opt of 31CHF breakfast a there is a cafe open across the road, nor dinner as amazing pubs, bars & restaurants are so close by
Room - I was upgraded so my room was very spacious, amazing comfy bed, shower was a challenge to figure out, but once working was a good pressure & temperature - fruit on arrival in room was a nice touch too. Room 405.
Noise - didn't hear any banging doors etc, despite my room being the 1st in teh corridor and close to the lifts.

Room tip: sign up for the loyalty scheme with Carlson club which may enable you to receive an upgraded room.

This is your typical bare bones European business hotel....rooms are cramped but clean..could smell the cigarette smoke wafting up from the carpet. Restaurant was nice for breakfast but would go somewhere else for dinner

This hotel is located fairly centrally, about 6 minutes on foot from the main train station. Surrounding businesses are very varied. There are fast food places right across the street and small convenience stores in direct proximity. Various tram lines stop right outside the hotel. My room was quite standard, with a comfortable bed of decent size and a desk with a European electrical outlet as well as several Swiss sockets. There was no view at all or at least none preferable to keeping the drapes closed. The bathroom was very cramped (shower in the bathtub), with a cheap sliding glass door that would have afforded zero privacy had I not been alone. The mirror in the bathroom and the one outside the bathroom steamed up completely very quickly during showers, and the absence of an enclosure for the shower (i.e. bathtub) meant plenty of water ended up on the floor. The toiletries were nothing special, dental/shaving kits on request. I don't know if my Silver Club Carlton status got me a better room, but assume not; it did seem to get me a welcome amenity consisting of one small apple, one small orange, a bottle of water and 11 goldfish crackers. There is a gym on the first floor. It is quite basic, but better than what most hotels in Basel have, with about 8 Nautilus-type machines in addition to dumbbells and cardio equipment. There is a pool I did not visit. The breakfast was uninspired. There were no hash browns, just potatoes prepared in the most boring possible fashion (boiled, it seemed). The mushrooms seemed the canned variety and were also rather uninterestingly prepared. No beans. There were three kinds of milk by fat content, but no soy milk. The selection of fruit was very limited. Cleaning staff was annoying, twice entering without knocking despite a do-not-disturb sign! On one of these occasions it turned out the employee was to have gone to room 430 rather than my room (439). It would be a definite improvement to hire people with a slightly more developed understanding of their role.
