My stayed here for 2 night at the beginning of October and were really excited to stay here. When we arrived at the hotel, we really liked the looks of the hotel from the driveway, but once we started our checkin process, it all started going down hill. Its not that the service was bad, but you would expect that if you're checking in to a castle from the ELEVENTH CENTURY, that you would at least get a little explanation or history of the place? Nothing. We were handed our room key and asked if we needed help taking the bags up to our room. Considering the price, size and history of the hotel, you would expect a little introduction to the hotel and its areas/services. Even when staying at a corporate chain they usually give you the usual run down of the place (i.e: our pool is located at X, our restaurant is open from X-X, you can have some drinks at the bar located at X). We got nothing. We decided to walk around and explore for ourselves and even went back to the front desk and asked them if they could tell us a little bit about the hotel and they just stared silent for a second and then said "uhmm.. sure I can print something for you to read". The castle itself could be a 4/5, but the service is just so "meh" that it makes what could be a possibly great unique stay, really dissapointing

Dear AMACE,
We first thank you for staying with us and thanks for your high expectations. We are sad about your review. We must say that, if we have not accomplished our intention to transmit the beauty of this place to our guests, we have definitely failed.
It seems strange to us that all your questions and interest has completely missed the attention of the Reception, that is very happy to welcome people from all over the world and knows about the history and the origin of the castle. Anyway, if this was your impression, we do not have excuse, but this was probably one exception to our standards. We hope that, at least for the environment (the grounds, the views, etc.), you have spent a couple of relaxing days in Perugia. We say sorry for any lack of listening to you and we would like to seeing you again with our warmest welcome.
Francesco

We were three couples going in with high expectations based on the TA reviews as well as Frommers. We booked the three most expensive suites. The rooms are small, oddly shaped and not comfortable. You couldn't control the temperature. The bathrooms are tiny and poorly designed. The views are great and the grounds are nice. However there is no place to walk and you are stuck there unless you have a car or take a cab. The restaurant at night is good and reasonable. The breakfast is average and the service poor. The castle vibe is nice. Perugia makes a good base for exploring Umbria but we made a mistake staying here for six nights because it was not comfortable. It might be a good choice for a night or two if you can get a good rate.

Room tip: the rooms with great views are expensive and oddly shaped and probably not worth it

Dear david999,
thanks for your review. We are a bit sad to know that you have been not completely satisfied. The castle is a special place, where "special" means "unusual, different, unique". It was born from the idea of making the building more similar to a big house more a simple hotel. It has been transformed thinking about modern needs and comforts, it is now made by people who respect the origin of this place and work every day to make it nice and warm for all the people who want to come and enjoy its beauty. It is a pity that all this has not arrived to you, we cannot be loved by all the world and we know that we're still far from perfection, but we are very disappointed that one of our guests has not been happy.
Anyway, thanks a lot for visiting us.
Francesco

Our group had a wonderful dinner on the terrace of the castle. We arrived just as the sun was setting. The views of the countryside were breathtaking.
And the dinner lived up to the views. Each dish was not only tasty but beautifully presented.

I hope we have a chance to return!

The Castle was such a unique experience for us- we hated to leave to explore all that Umbria had to offer but always looked forward to returning to “our castle” at the end of the day. Thoroughly upgraded (it took 4 years) it has all the 21st century touches you would expect but in a 13th century building. Amazing.
18 rooms in total and of the 4 or 5 that we peaked into each would have suited our needs- not a bad room in the house (castle).
Book it and enjoy.

It was an unparalleled experience to be staying in the castle. We loved it so much and would certainly like to come back again to stay for a longer period of time.

- Service: the hotel staff were all so friendly. Special thanks to Luca who is genuinely kind to take us around the castle and introduce some history of it to us; and Giuseppe for taking care of our luggages and his great disposition. A brief encounter with Franccesco just showed us how much he cares about all the guests’ experience at the hotel as well.

- Room: lovely standard room that we stayed in, albeit relatively small, it was very clean and comfortable.

- Location: The hotel is situated up on the hill (10-15 mins drive to the main town area) and so you can enjoy a panoramic view of Perugia. If you have a car, that would be really convenient as the hotel also provides free parking.

- Breakfast is included and we enjoyed sitting there with a view to complement our breakfast.

The experience of staying in the castle with great service was truly wonderful.
