We stayed with Lisa for 4 nights in June this year with Airbnb. This was our favourite part of our whole Europe trip. She and her family and animals are so welcoming. The room was lovely we stayed in the Lisa apartment. But the best thing was the place - the views, pool, spa and serenity. It really is one of the most peaceful places on earth. We will be back when we come to Europe again. Lisa even posted me back some items I left in our room to Australia. Do yourself a favour and stay here!

We LOVED Il Poderaccio.

We’ve been to a quite a few wonderful places in Italy, but this little gem literally just behind Siena was pretty darn special.

We arrived at Il Poderaccio on an archetypal dark and stormy night and, although it was quite a bit later than Lisa expected us, she came out to warmly greet us and took her time to show us around the flat we had rented for the week (Annarosa). Before leaving us to settle in for the evening, Lisa suggested that the complimentary bottle of Chianti Classico (her very own luscious organic Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG) waiting for us in the kitchen may help us unwind after our long trip (we drove from southern Germany). Lisa was just the right kind of attentive during our entire stay.

What we woke up to exceeded any of our expectations. The farm is perched upon a peak in the hills just behind Siena and has the most amazing panoramic views of the Tuscan countryside down below. Every morning and evening was absolutely magical for landscape snaps – some, right from our bedroom window (see photos)! The two-bedroom Annarosa was spacious, romantic, super clean and comfortable and well-equipped with a small but functional kitchen and comfortable living room with eating area. The bathroom was very clean and even equipped with a washer, which is very convenient when you stay for a week or more. Wifi worked well for the most part, although you may find reception stronger and more reliable in some rooms than others. The apartment had archetypal stone arches and thick walls and is furnished in that style, making for a very authentic Tuscan feel. Although a working farm, our stay at Il Poderaccio was defined by tranquility – we spent every morning basking in the quiet, morning sun on our patio, taking in the sights and aromas of the orchards on the grounds.

Speaking of the grounds – magical. The views of the Tuscan countryside are the stuff of coffee table book legend on all sides. You could spend hours every day just wondering around the orchards, sitting by the pool, playing bocce, and visiting the many animals that are lovingly cared for by Lisa and her family. We were greeted every morning by a big, gentle soul of a dog named Robur who always waited patiently for us on our doorstep (he just enjoyed sitting with us as we had our morning coffee). The other paddock animals were a delight to check out – lots of dogs, horses, ducks, a cow and a donkey, to name a few. We loved the atmosphere and feel of this, although it may not be for everyone. If you’re after a luxury stay, you would likely be happier in a hotel.

Lisa had amazing suggestions for good eats and places to go in and around Siena. Il Poderaccio is a great home base for exploring Tuscany. As for the major two cities, Siena is a 30-minute walk down the hill (or 5 minutes by car) from the farm and Florence about an hour and a half’s drive. We focused on Siena and other medieval hill towns (Montalcino, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano,) and majestic sights around Il Poderaccio – the Val d'Orcia and Chianti and of their spectacular vineyards. The local wines are to die for and tastings couldn’t be easier (we never booked in advance but we were visiting in early May) or more affordable (compared to Burgundy or Bordeaux).

We normally don’t visit places twice (too many places interest us ) but we are certain that we will come back to Tuscany to stay at Il Poderaccio. It was that nice. And we’re running out of Lisa’s sumptuous organic wine and olive oil ;)

Thank you Lisa!!

My husband and I stayed at Lisa's beautiful farm as a relaxing break to our somewhat busy honeymoon. We were warmly greeted by Lisa's niece Ottavia, who was very accommodating and helpful. The scenery of the property is absolutely stunning - most days we simply sat and enjoyed a glass of Lisa's own delicious wine, read a book and soaked in the views.

Our room was just right for us with a small kitchen with everything you would need to cook. We didn't have a car so the walk to the shops was a bit of a trek in the summer sun, with 15 minutes to get there and another 15 minutes to walk back. However if you had a car, then this obviously wouldn't be a problem. The wifi was also a bit touch and go, and I had access just once over the several days we were there. My husband had a bit more luck on his phone.

We became well acquainted with the friendly menagerie there, especially Robur the lovely dog who would visit us most days! And Lisa and her family were also very friendly, with Lisa even going out of her way to drive us to the train station on our final morning. Overall a wonderful, relaxing stay in a beautiful part of the world.

This villa is amazing. We had such a great time here. We had spent 4 weeks touring around Europe so it was great to spend a week relaxing in the country. The views are great - you get your own terrace and can enjoy a nice glass of red wine while soaking in the views. Did I mention they make their own wine- it is good! We loved the animals and the laid back atmosphere. Chilling out by the pool after a day of sightseeing was great. It was close to Siena and a good point to drive to heaps of places around Tuscany. We had nightly visits from Robur the "guard" dog. Lisa was a great host and went above and beyond for our stay - she arranged a horse riding tour and some wine holders so we could take some back to Australia with us! Great place to stay and highly recommend if you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle!
