My husband and 15 and 21 year old daughters and I stayed here one week June 2015. Bottom line the experience exceeded our expectations:
SPACE: 4 bed with 4 ensuite bathrooms. This set up is very unusual and great which gave a wonderful sense of privacy and space. The rental is on the second floor (the owners live on the first floor) so the ceiling in each room (not just the living room) is soaring stone/timber and all rooms and hallways are open and large in feel.
VIEW: San Gimignano in the distance seen from all the rooms on that side of the house which face it. Pool shares that view. It is only a 5 minute drive so is the perfect match of country retreat + proximity to a major site. Lovely at all times of the day. The Podere is at the crest of a hill so our apartment room-by-room had perhaps a near 300 degree view.
HOSTS: Family of four who live on the first floor of this beautiful stone home. They are very respective of space and privacy and are very hard workers on their farm. Barbara, the daughter, speaks great English and has a truly lovely personality. We were greeted with a bottle of the farm's white and red wines which were very nice and welcoming.
DINNER: We also had the family make us dinner one night. I would highly recommend this. 30 euros per head which included wine and water. 3 courses - a starter on a gorgeous huge wooden platter - a main of beef/chicken/salad/vegetable/potatoes - a dessert of a chocolate molten cake beautifully presented. The extra touch was that Barbara came up to our apartment and set the huge long main table with a long white linen and china and glasses so it was a special event.
OVERALL: A lovely and memorable stay - the family as memorable as the place - and we look forward to our return.

We have recently returned from a wonderful family vacation in Tuscany, where we stayed at Podere Lo Spadino, which is located just outside San Gimignano, a picturesque medieval walled town and World Heritage Site. The villa, built by Maris Montagnani himself, is well-equipped, spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room for large families or multiple sets of guests. The views from all the rooms are amazing, especially from the living room where the picture windows open onto a stunning view of San Gimignano, which can also be seen whilst swimming in the villa’s private pool. We enjoyed several dinners of local produce cooked on the built-in barbeque, including fresh-from-the-garden tomatoes given to us by our kind host Barbara, Maris’ daughter. We also enjoyed a traditional Tuscan dinner prepared by Barbara and her family, using home-grown or house-prepared produce. The house-cured prosciutto was the best we tasted during the entire vacation! Barbara and her family (mother, father, grandmother and brother) are always ready to help if you need anything.
The location of the villa is extremely convenient with all the major Tuscan attractions within easy reach (Florence, Siena, Lucca, Pisa, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Chianti, to name but a few), making them an easy day trip by car or (we would recommend) train to Florence and Siena.
If you are looking for exceptional accommodation close to one of the prettiest towns in Tuscany and well located for you to visit the many Tuscan highlights, we highly recommend Podere Lo Spadino
