It's easy to overlook this awesome little place while you're admiring the San Francesco Monastery, and from the outside, it doesn't look all that impressive because the building used to be a side building to the monastery. Do go inside La Botteghina Solidale! It's a small shop, run independently as a nonprofit to benefit the monastery that acts as a retirement home for elderly area Franciscan monks. It has very unique items for sale at incredibly reasonable prices. Some of these items are of a religious nature, others are hand-made soaps and cremes, jellies, etc. Most notable are items donated by the Italian painter Milvio Sodi (google him) along with scarves and other items created in his genre. There is something for everyone, and the manager is very personable.
If you've climbed all the way up the hill to enjoy the monastery or the beautiful view of Florence, make sure find this little shop/gallery - and tell its awesome manager his place has finally landed on TripAdvisor! I have tons of pictures that I will post once this place is officially recognized by TripAdvisor- as the first review does not seem to support the posting of pix.
