After a side trip to Rome we could not stand the thought of returning to "My First Tripadvisor Fail" where we stayed for the first few nights.
We found this very newly renovated apartment less than a block from Mercado Firenze. As advertised, it is in an ancient monastery as evidenced by the beautiful arched ceilings and stone walls thiick enough to dull a hurricane. This is important because it is over top of some noisy shops. Once inside you cannot hear them.
It has all the amenities needed including two bathrooms with awesome new tile showers and a very welcome washer/dryer.
Here is the deal....you can pop over to the Mercado for world class Cappuccino and Croissants in the morning for a fraction of the cost of a hotel breakfast. If like me, you love to cook you can hit the Mercado (before they close at 3pm) and buy the ingredients for any delicious Italian specialty you can imagine. The apartment kitchen has a typical Euro size fridge and gas oven/stove combination that is very capable of culinary miracles. Real espresso maker is fun. There is a nice terrazzo off the kitchen with al fresco setup if you wish. This place is a big winner......
Do not bypass the great wine, fresh pastas, antipasti and Limoncello.
If you want to go out for first class Bistecca Fiorentina go over to Osteria Pepe which is just a quick walk from home.
What can I say...my memories of Florence will be dominated by our stay at Il Nido Bianco.
When we return it will be #1 on our list.
