We flew into Pisa airport, used the Pisa-Mover metro, 5 minutes ( €2.70, single) to Pisa Centrale then "rapid" train to Florence, 70 minutes (€8.60 single) . We purchased our tickets from machines on the platforms, where instructions were in English & easy to use. You can use cash or cards at both. It's a really easy transfer!
When you arrive at Florence walk directly left in front of the station, & cross the road & tram lines. You'll see two "McDonalds" restaurants. You walk along the road between them. After 100m on the right, where the road splits there is an archway with "F.Alinari" above. The Cosimo entrance is just inside on the left. If you get to the yellow "Apollo Hotel "on the left, you've gone too far!
The hotel staff at the front desk are great. They are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The other staff, in the hotel are happy, friendly, courteous and very efficient.
The hotel lift only goes to the first floor. We were there on a Jet2 package ( the hotel is a 3 star and NOT 4 star, unless you've paid to have your room up-graded) and our room, facing the rear of the hotel was quiet, overlooking a courtyard used for parking A decent room and adequate facilities,TV, safe & mini-fridge but no refreshments. The air-conditioning unit worked well & gave us a pleasant stay. There were a few "luggage marks" on the walls, but otherwise the room was fine, with a comfortable bed. The hotel provides free drinks of tea, coffee etc from 15:00 . There is a Conad ( supermarket) shop just across the road which is very handy for almost everything!
The hotel is well positioned for all the major sites & there's numerous cafes & bars all around. Just two blocks behind the hotel is a covered market, where they sell all sorts of food & drink. Try the fresh pasta shop "Pasta Fresca" it's only €5 for a plate of delicious pasta that will serve two people!. Also take a look upstairs at the array of cafes & restaurants, if you want more.
In summary, the hotel was fine & Florence beautiful, just make sure you book in advance for the popular sites.
If you want to go to Sienna, just get the bus, it's €6.50, single, takes about an hour on the faster service. The bus station is 5 minutes from the hotel on the other side of the train station. We also took the local bus to Fiesole , from the Piazza St.Marco (easy 10 minute walk) get your bus tickets from the little shop (tabac) in the square, costing €1.50 single rather than €2.50 on the bus!. It's 15 minutes bus ride into the hills but the views are fabulous. There's also a small Roman site , with museum, baths & amphitheatre, which is very picturesque. You also get into the museum next door free with the same ticket.
We can only hope you have as good a holiday as we did. Thanks also to the staff who organised a week of wall-to-wall sunshine & blue skies!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are probably quieter.

The room was okay. The bathroom was very modern, the best shower I took on my whole italian roadtrip!
Location was great. The staff really friendly.
We were very happy we had a parkingspot in the hotel itself. Really convenient!
Would come back if I ever visit Firenze again.

Stayed here for a total of 3 nights. Great location; very near SMN. Many eateries nearby and a short walk to other attractions.
Room was nice and clean, probably renovated recently. Staff was friendly and helpful. Had to miss breakfast as we had to catch our train early in the morning of check out and they helped us to pack it. Lovely gesture. Will recommend this place to stay in Florence without a doubt.

We were all awestruck at the size and furnishings in our bathroom- gold chair, jacuzzi tub, large shower, bidet, and even an exercise bike! Plus it had a view of the Medici Chapels. The rest of the room was lovely and opulent too, with a chandelier and copies of paintings on the walls. We had a family room that worked quite well for our family of four (2 adults, 2 kids). We enjoyed the balcony overlooking the Medici Chapel and the courtyard. It was a little confusing to get to our room, up the elevator and through another lobby, but we enjoyed the quiet. Breakfast was plentiful, with a variety of breads/pastries, meats, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, and juices. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was quite convenient to the station and not a difficult walk from the Duomo.

Of the three hotels we had for our Italy trip this was the only underwhelming one. OK rooms but rather pedestrian styling and features. Bathroom was barely adequate with repair work needed to be done. Very convenient location to rail station and sites, good breakfast onsite but marginal otherwise.

Dear Thomas,
we thank You for having focused our excellent location, near the station and a few blocks away from the city centre. We are actually located in the best position to visit not only Florence but also the surrounding areas thanks to the several busses stopes near the Hotel.
We are sorry to see that You was not totally satisfied with our accommodation, which is always kept in perfect conditions thanks to a caring management. We try to fix within a few hours any repair needed, our reception is open 24hs a day on this purpose and we are always eager to help. Nevertheless, we wish to point out that the Hotel Cosimo de' Medici is a 3 stars Hotel offering excellent services for this category. The breakfast is very rich if You compare it to other 3 stars hotel, and include a variety of salty and sweet products, some of them (i.e.the honeycomb, seeds and pecorino cheese) absolutely delicious. All rooms were recently renovated and all bathroomns are new. We offer all comforts, wifi perfectly working in the whole hotel and many complementary services, such as the storage of luggage and the tea area with hot water and coffes available the whole day long.
Before booking, we ask to all our coming guests to have a look at our webpage, where our Hotel, which is simple and family run but well refurbished, is honestly described and represented.
We apologize for any inconvenient occured during Your stay and hope, however, to have the pleasure to welcome You in future.
Kind regards
The Management and the staff
