“Whole farmhouse suitable for large family”

We needed a vacation property large enough for our family group of 28, which included 12 adults and 16 offspring ranging in age from 18 to 2 years. Podere Vignola more than suited our needs. We were celebrating two birthdays and needed to accommodate family from different parts of the world. We also needed self-catering accommodation. Podere Vignola scored because we could rent out the entire place of 5 self-contained units and each with its own kitchen. Also, the children could roam free and not disturb other guests. The large well-maintained pool plus the table tennis set-up were a bonus. This is not a resort, but forms part of the Agriturissmo association, so all other activities for the youngsters were an important aspect. Each of the units was well-equipped in terms of crockery and cutlery, a dishwasher and reasonable stove, though some units have better kitchens than others. This was important because we spent 7 days here and cooked for ourselves every day, so the kitchen and reasonable size fridge made a difference. Of course, we also used the BBQ facilities. The two brothers who run the place, Giovanni and Filippo, are very helpful, and always on hand to assist, since they live on the property further up the hill. They would come racing down on a little Vespa with a cheery smile when needed to attend to a faulty lightbulb, a wi-if problem(very poor reception), open an umbrella at the pool, bring an extra fan or more sheets, or any other myriad issues we needed to have attended. Keep in mind that this is rustic accommodation (not luxury) although the bathrooms are good, ( but no shelving for toiletries and no hooks for bathrobes and ours had a plastic shower curtain which fell down - other units had better shower cubicles) and the beds were reasonably comfortable. However, guests do need to stock up on basics like garbage bags (you need to attend to your open garbage and remove it), and kitchen cleaning materials . We could have paid for a cleaning service but it was prohibitively expensive, so we decided to do without, which meant some sweeping and clearing up after meals, most of which we ate outside on a lovely covered patio. The owners did not mind that we rearranged the furniture placing an extra table permanently on the patio, and then dragging more chairs under the trees for our actual party celebrations. The one area where service would have been nice is a change of bath and swimming pool towels. Although Podere Vignola does supply drying racks outdoors, the towels soon started to look like wet rags, and on one occasion we actually took them ourselves to the Lavendaria in the nearby small village of Sieci. A few more small 'luxury' touches would have been appreciated. From a location point of view, the farmhouse is accessible to Florence while still being in a lovely country setting amidst vineyards and olive groves. Highly recommended for families with children and those who enjoy a historic farmhouse holiday. Thank you to our hosts, the Naldonis, for going out of their way to make our stay most enjoyable!

“Charmer in the Tuscan Hills”

We absolutely loved Podere Vignola! Rustic yet refined, quiet, scenic and comfortable. We stayed in the Giardino (2 BR, 2 new bathrooms). The whole apartment was bright and fresh upon arrival. Giardino looks out onto a picturesque stone courtyard and surrounding hills, from both the large master bedroom and the huge front door. Our apartment's stone walls were 2 feet thick so you heard no other guests (unless they were outside). Podere Vignola is a little tricky to get to, but no worries--the very accommodating English-speaking host GIovanni will meet you in town and lead you up the hillside the first time. It does require a rental car, but a short winding trip down the hillside and you're in the delightful little town of Sieci. Sieci has an easy-to-use train station so we parked there and took the train in and out of Florence every single day. The Sieci grocery store also had a few English-speaking employees, so stocking up on groceries was easy, too. Get your Brunello here! We would definitely return to Podere Vignola when in Florence again.
