The flat is situated right in the centre of Palermo with all the sights and historic parts within walking distance. It is easy to get there by public transport, you just hop off the bus on the via roma. Next to via roma, in a small lane, a narrow flight of stairs leads up to a spaceous, bright appartment on the top floor.
Even though the flat is right in the middle of noisy Palermo, it is rather quiet up there - so we slept very well. It is an unconventional flat with charming Italian tiles in various parts. There is a large, homely kitchen well equipped for cooking. And we just loved having breakfast and other meals on the terrasse full of flowers.
The owner is a very reliable, helpful lady full of information and good advice.
In the heart of the old Palermo, the apartment is big, unusual and has a lot of charm. Very quiet, and the terrace is wonderful. Sara is a very friendly host. We will gladly stay there again.
We stayed for just over 1 week in Sept/Oct and really enjoyed our holiday. The apartment is well laid-out/comfortable, is really bright and airy, and has some lovely touches such as the old-style tiles in the bathroom.
The rear of the apartment has two balconies facing onto a lovely quiet courtyard - it was a real pleasure to have breakfast there in the morning with the sun streaming through the trees.
Palermo is a fairly busy and noisy town, and although the apartment is very close to the amenities and transport links on Via Roma, it is actually on Via Antonio Gagini which has been closed to through traffic so noise is less of a problem.
In general, public transport in Sicily isn't great, but the apartment is so well located that we were able to use buses and trains for day trips to Cefalu, Mondello, Monreale, and even Agrigento. Most of the old town is within walking distance from the apartment - we went on several shopping trips by foot to the street markets at Bollaro and Capo, and the Vucciria market is just a few minutes walk away. The kitchen area in the apartment is ideal for cooking the excellent fresh produce from the markets.
Sara is very pleasant and is willing to chat about the apartment and what Palermo has to offer. In fact we had a very enjoyable and in-depth conversation with her on our last day - it was a good way to round off a great holiday!
