Well worth a visit. So well preserved, stunning. Can get a little cramped at busy times. Choose your visiting time wisely, gardens and rooms closed on our visit.

Highly recommend visiting this palace and the Palatine Chapel. The chapel is the highlight of the tour but the private apartments, only available from Friday to Monday, are well worth a visit.

We visited Palermo at the end of a 2-week tour of Italy. It seemed that every day we visited a different UNESCO site, but this was one of the best! The chapel is covered in absolutely beautiful mosaics. The chapel is breathtaking. Even more inspiring is the Islamic artistic touches that remain in the Catholic Church-a great example of different cultures interweaving respectfully and beautifully (a particularly meaningful display post-2016)

Unfortunately, at time of visit, royal apartments were closed so that was a downer. Ticket price was only slightly reduced but wanted to see palatine chapel so paid anyway.
Summary - palatine chapel is amazing but frankly not worth the price without the royal apartments. Don’t bother paying extra for the audio guide - it was rubbish. And be prepared for some seriously jobsworth staff.
Good to see the palatine chapel and glad we did but overall experience v cost was really quite underwhelming.
