We found the hotel to be clean & comfortable and it met all our expectations. The thing that stood out most for us were the excellent staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. Was of the highlights of our stay in Catania was the tour to Mount Etna which was taken by Marco, the owner, his enthusiasm and knowledge made for an amazing adventure. Later in the week when our flight home was cancelled Marco was superb, arranging an extra nights stay and printing our new boarding passes. We have no problem recommending this hotel and should we return to Catania we would gladly stay again.

Etna Hotel is a true gem in the middle of a very ordinary working town - Giarre. Admittedly some of the rooms may be somewhat small but extremely clean and comfortable, we asked for and got an upgrade (at a price) to room 112 with its own private terrace next to the pool, it was excellent. The staff are quite exemplary there seems nothing that they will not do for you. Special mention for Grazia one of the most helpful members of reception you could ask for. They will recommend the best restaurants and book tables, explain how to get there etc, very useful. Breakfast which is always included is excellent, fresh fruit salad, homemade yogurt and local honey, fresh eggs and lovely bread are almost worth the trip alone. The restaurant, which adjoins the hotel although not being part of it is first class. I would not say that it is walking distance from any restaurants you certainly need a car and this being Sicily leave your northern European driving manners at home. We would not suggest two weeks in Giarre, once you have seen Mt Etna and been taken on the tour there nothing much in the town at all. But the hotel is very peaceful and ideal for a complete rest.

Room Tip: Room 112 would seem to be the best room, a little more expensive but worth it.

Hotel Etnea 316 is in a great location...next to excellent restaurants and within walking distance to all the major attractions in the city. The best part of our trip was the hospitality and service shown by hosts Dominic and Marco. The gift of hospitality is seen immediately when you meet Dominic with his easy smile, effusive manner and desire to make your stay a fun and memorable one. He is very helpful (carried our large bag up 2 flights) and always seeks to brighten your day. The highlight of our stay in Catania would have to be the Mt. Etna exursion led by Marco. From his quick driving skills to his great knowledge of Mt. Etna, local Catania and Sicily in general, provided for us an educational and fun experience. Marco's expressive nature added to our enjoyment. For us we will always remember our visit to Catania and Sicily and in particular our new friends at Hotel Etnea 316,

This Hotel was a little quirky to get to. Unfortunately there was no elevator (was being installed) so had to carry our suitcases up the stairs. Once we got up into our room it was spacious and clean and had everything we needed. Situated on the main street of Catania with everything at your doorstep.

It was dark and dank. The bed was soft, the decor ugly. The breakfast was the worst we have had - no protein of any kind, no yogurt, bad juice. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is that the staff was very helpful and friendly. I cannot imagine how a hotel like this was given 3 stars. We stayed in a 2 * the night before which was far superior.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back although then your view is scafolding.
