This is an attractive art museum without crowds of visitors but with lots to see. Both the regular items and the special show of icons made out entry most worthwhile. Don't miss the extraordinary sculpture of the Fall of the Rebel Angels. You will ask yourself how did the artist accomplish that. It's not expensive and is on the museum pass. It has bathrooms and a book and gift shop with some relaxing chairs.

It was interesting both for the content and the architecture. It was not crowded and you could spend time looking at what you wanted to without pressure

The interior of this Palazzo is grotesque with stucco cherubs and mythological figures crawling from ceilings, corners, and staircases. However, there is a splendid collection of icons, a very fine group of Greek vases (former Caputi Collection), and amongst other pieces of interest, two lovely Guardi paintings. There is also a charming imaginary portrait of Palladio talking to Inigo Jones and Thomas Howard, Earl of Arundel by Zuccarelli

We went to the Palazzo Leoni Montanari towards the end of a day of sightseeing when we were beginning to feel a bit exhausted. The loggia of Hercules revived us and the interior just got better and better. Late baroque, works of fantasy, wonderful architectural features, great frescoes and a very strong collection. There is a whole room of paintings by Pietro Longhi, he was a milestone in 18th C Italian painting, no one in Italy had painted like him - think Hogarth and Hayman. The Galleria della Verità is exuberant and over the top, impossible not to love. In a later room is an astonishing marble sculpture of the Fall of the Rebel Angels, containing 60 figures , exquisitely executed by Fasolato. A complete gem of a collection.

The Leoni Montanari is an interesting museum located in a quiet side street in central Vicenza. Just by chance, I went in a special day, when all the museums in town were open at night, which was a nice experience. The building is as atractive as its contents. Although its neo-classical façade looks a bit discreet, there is a lot of points of interest indoors: a beautiful patio, huge rooms with high ceilings, stucco decor, paintings, being the general style openly baroque. The contents are interesting too, as they are quite varied, combining Italian paintings, Greek ceramics, a vast collection of Russian icones...so its variety plus the fact of not being one of those tiring endless big museums makes Leoni Montanari a interesting visit.
