We went to the Palazzo Leoni Montanari towards the end of a day of sightseeing when we were beginning to feel a bit exhausted. The loggia of Hercules revived us and the interior just got better and better. Late baroque, works of fantasy, wonderful architectural features, great frescoes and a very strong collection. There is a whole room of paintings by Pietro Longhi, he was a milestone in 18th C Italian painting, no one in Italy had painted like him - think Hogarth and Hayman. The Galleria della Verità is exuberant and over the top, impossible not to love. In a later room is an astonishing marble sculpture of the Fall of the Rebel Angels, containing 60 figures , exquisitely executed by Fasolato. A complete gem of a collection.
