Just returned from long weekend away with friends, the charm , location and staff are just second to none, rooms have a typical Venice feel and look, just a short stroll from the centre, it’s own taxi water door, only about 50 meters from grand canal, and located by the san stae water stop,
Will be definitely returning

This fantastic hotel, a former palace occupying two floors while the owner lives on the floors above, is an absolute steal for its quality, location and service and I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

We visited for a night at the end of a holiday in Croatia – we were a family of four, a family of two, and a couple – and we were accommodated brilliantly in palatial rooms with gorgeous furnishings and the utmost comfort and care.

From my initial email correspondence with Walter and Sandro, which was courteous , comprehensive, and cordial, our every need was met with warmth and efficiency. The rooms are configured so that additional beds can be added to accommodate families or extra guests, and everything was spotless and immaculate.

The hotel has a lovely little courtyard where drinks can be taken from the bar, it’s a stones throw from the St Stae riverbus stop on the Grand Canal, and within 10 minutes walk of the Rialto bridge and a 20 minute walk of St Mark’s Square. There are a myriad lovely little restaurants to eat at nearby, not the desultory fare you so often hear about in Venice nor overly expensive. It’s a lovely quarter.

Breakfast was nothing short of fantastic – fresh pancakes, fresh fruit, great selection of cereals, yoghurts, tea and coffee. Really wonderful.

When I go back to Venice I will never stay anywhere else again. Why would you? This gorgeous little find has absolutely everything you could need and is in the perfect location! Just don’t tell everybody else!!

I took my partner to Venice for his 30th and stayed here on the recommendation of a friend. Not that I’d have expected her call to have been anything other than wonderful but this place exceeded my expectations tremendously.

Firstly, location. Now from our experience it’s pretty hard to get this wrong in Venice as everything is accessible by foot, and if you’re less inclined to walk everywhere there’s plenty of water-based options to suit. That being said, the hotel is situated in a beautiful part of town that isn’t overrun with tourists and with ample little eateries and taverns around. As a couple who like a night out but aren’t too enamoured with following a crowd of unadventurous tourists about, this was perfect. Plus it’s very easy to get to the airport from here!

The hotel itself is stunning; very quaint and inviting. There’re two entrances and if you come from the back there’s a very sweet little courtyard where you can dine and drink. When we arrived we were offered the choice of two rooms, both of which had four-poster beds and both beautiful. The beds are ridiculously comfortable and big enough that you end up losing one another (in a nice way) during the night, resulting in a fantastic nights’ sleep. The bathrooms are spotless and the showers great! All in all, I can’t fault it.

The breakfast is exactly what you need - there’s a good mix so there’s something for everyone and it’s not exactly the same every day so you get a little diversity. They also have a little bar so if you wish to continue your evening that’s easily achieved!

As if all of the above doesn’t cut it, the staff truly make this place. From booking through to check out they couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating! They’re generous, friendly, always smiling and happy to help however is required. In spite of our appalling Italian they were very helpful in explaining things in English, (shame on us)! Plus, when we had marginally sore heads on our final morning, delaying check out for an hour wasn’t remotely problematic!

If you’re a couple, a group of friends or on a family trip this place is fabulous and caters to all. I literally cannot find fault in anything (not that I’m actively searching for a negative). I’d highly recommend it and I’d like to thank the staff for helping me make my boyfriends surprise 30th so perfect!

The hotel was great. The location is very close to San Stae vaporetto stop which we used a lot to travel around Venice. The room and bath were comfortable and large by European standards. The breakfast was excellent - one of the best we had in Italy. The hotel staff was very helpful and assisted us with reservations, directions and advice.

I pat myself on the back for reading and believing all the positive reviews of this hotel. It truly is a fantastic place to stay in Venice: close to the major sites but far enough away from the associated crowds.

We were assigned room 55, a relatively massive room on the 1st floor above ground and facing onto Salizada San Stae. The bed was comfortable, there was a sofa and desk for daytime use, and plenty of room for luggage. We never heard noise from the street, staff, nor any other guests.

The room was decorated with gold fabric on the walls, golden bedspread, red sitting chairs, and Murano glass chandeliers. Electrical outlets of the three-prong Italian variety are plentiful and easily accessible. The bathroom is large with a combination shower/bathtub; those with mobility issues may have some difficulty getting into the tub.

The electronic safe is big enough for passports but cannot hold tablets nor laptops. The mini-fridge did a good job keeping drinks cold; prices for hotel-supplied drinks are relatively modest. Wifi speed and coverage were pretty good.

Our travel mates had room 56 across the hall, a smaller room but with a large patio overlooking a green area bordering Rio San Stae.

Breakfast is served in an unbelievably charming courtyard next to a bridge that spans the Rio San Stae. There's a small but varied selection on offer, and the friendly staff are always around to fulfill your cappuccino order.

The Rialto Bridge is mere minutes away. So too is Piazza San Marco. We went to Saint Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace, Saint Mark's Campanile, gondola ride, Murano, Burano, Torcello, the Accademia Bridge, La Fenice, La Scala Contarini del Bovolo, etc, etc etc. Everything Venice has to offer is easily in reach from Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo.

If you have the chance, do hire a private water taxi and arrive at the hotel's water door on the Rio San Stae. We did not get to do that but next time we will.

Pro tip:go to the Co-Op Store in nearby Campo San Giacomo Da L'Orio for all your drink and snack needs: 6 bottles of 1.5L water for just a €1.50! The Campo is also a recommended spot for hanging out with the native Venetians and watching the world go by. Trattoria Al Ponte Del Megio is recommended- have the fritura mista while sitting at a charming canal-side table and thanking your lucky stars for being alive and able to enjoy such beauty.

Look for our video of the hotel on Youtube. Just search the hotel's name.
