Owner description: It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

Special visit. Wish we could have stayed longer. Wonderful atmosphere, could have listened to the bands all night long!

Napoleon is very vividly described the square of St. Mark as a "salon of Europe". Sitting in one of the 18th-century cafés and observe one of the most unusual churches in Europe, the golden Byzantine Basilica of St. Mark's for us is wonderfull and we are full of joy and respect. Venice is a city of romance and love, waterways, picturesque bridges, beautiful palaces, churches, antique cafe bars and restaurants with delicious food. It's hard not to like this unusual city. The heart of the whole town is St. Mark's Square. It was the center of Venetian life once, as it is today. The Square is actually made up of three parts, Piazza (the main part of the square), Piazzetta (located on the south side of the Doge's Palace by the sea) and Piazzetta dei Leonchini (little square with lions). The square is dominated by the Basilica of St. Mark, the beautiful Venetian cathedral, its richly decorated interior is something not to be missed. Along the Basilica on the Square there is a Torre dell'orologio (Clock Tower), the Marciana Library (the National Library of St. Mark's), the Correr Museum ( Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini, Alvise Vivarini, Lorenzo Lotto and Vittore Carpaccio) , the Archaeological Museum, the tresor of St. Mark's Basilica. One place that you should not miss on St Mark's Square is Caffe Florian. Caffe Florian is the oldest café in Venice opened in 1720, known as a place that combines culture, art, politics and entertainment in one place. The atmosphere is always enchanting. Here is held the famous Carnival of Venice and then it is extremely happy and magical atmosphere.
Stunning and beautifuly

This was our second time in Venice and due to hotel location went through the square most days...it was incredibly busy!!

The main bridges are heaving due to cruise day-trippers and even though was only 5 years ago we visited the numbers are noticeably higher.

The square has good sights and photo opps, as per usual advice don’t get a coffee as v.expensive.

For a walk and look around I reccomend, very beautiful architecture. I do not recommend visiting restaurants. We were three of us and two hungry, so we only want ate just two of us . When we were in the restaurant - near the Marco square where they had pasta and pizza with red written, waiter said that we must to eat three of us or we can not eat and, we had to leave the restaurant. Due to such restaurants all turists give low rated to all square. Do not eat at the squad because it is not worth the money. All services are overrated. They are friendly only to money, not to the tourists to have a great time. there.
