We were sent here by a close friend who visits several times a year and says this is his favorite restaurant. We saved it for the last night of our wonderful trip to Venice. We love Venice and come here as often as we can. This was an awful experience. We got lost on the way and when we arrived 13 minutes late we were asked to leave. The owner said that it is their policy. I promise that this is exactly what happened. We were stunned. We are an older couple and my husband walks with a cane. I think they could look at him and understand that we maybe took a long time getting there from where we were staying down near the Accademia. It really freaked us out. Also, the restaurant was empty at the time except for one table inside and two outside. We apologized but she said that it was a matter of policy.

Dinner last night after a couple of canalside Campari Spritz at a local favourite, Anice Stellato (Star Anise).
What a lovely dinner! The sommelier recommended a bottle of Barbarano from the Vicenza region of Veneto, the grape being Bacaro, in close affinity with Garnacha. Delish.
An amuse bouche of a baby burger stuffed with creamed bass was delightful. And the bread was exactly what homemade bread should be: grainy, chewy and rich.
We shared a starter of swordfish, slow-cooked sous vide. Chunky and tender, it was right up there with the best fish I've ever eaten. Followed by an enormous platter of Frittura Mista - a mix of seafood so lightly fried as to be crisp outside, moist and flaky inside, with no grease on the fingers. Accompanied by a bowl of salad.
A perfectly balanced dinner, and perfectly priced.

The food was good, so I didn't give the restaurant one point, but two.

It took them over 20 minutes to take our order, and over 40 more minutes to get us our drinks (We needed to call a waiter ourselves twice just to order the drinks).

Between the antipasti and the main course we waited an additional 35 minutes.

Even after everybody left and we were alone in the restaurant, it felt like we didn't exist and I had to get up and pay on the way out while they were cleaning up.

It's a shame that we had a 2 course meal in 2.5 hours, when the table next to us (friends of the chef or one of the cooks) arrived 30 minutes after us and recieved very speedy service.

The worst thing is that the terrible experience we had didn't seem to bother the staff at all. Again, the food was tasty (even when you put aside that a lot of the dishes were missing from the menu) but the service was definitely not what we expected, to say the least.

One of the best meals on our recent trip to Italy. My wife and I had a saffron, pecorino, and black pepper risotto which was out-of-this-world good. Also, the fritturra di pesce was excellent, the best I've ever had. Definitely book a table at Anice Stellata if you're in Venezia.

the food quality was very good and their al dente pasta was simply excellent - the best we ate in Venice. We went for lunch and dinner on separate days. A limited menu but no worse for it. Outside tables beside the canal need pre-booking. Service very friendly and helpful. Expect to pay around 20 Euros on average for each course, which is on a par with the centre restaurants' prices but the quality and atmosphere are much better here, a 15 minute pleasant walk from the Ca'Segrado Hotel (20 from Rialto Bridge, for example)
