La Dolce Vita

Nick could not have been more helpful and was kind enough to allow us to be the first family with infant children to stay at his holiday home on the shores of Lake Como.

This has the look and feel of an exclusive development (20 or so apartments), where most of the residents tend to congregate here on weekends only and therefore we felt very privileged to virtually have the beautiful communal gardens and swimming pool all to ourselves for most of the week.

Located on the eastern shores of Lake Como, about 15 minutes drive from Como town and next to Torno, this is a beautiful complex. The entry to these apartments is a deceptive plain looking car park, however the lift down four floors and your very own private funicular set the scene for a stunning lake views below.

The apartment is a clever conversion of the space in a stand-alone block below the swimming pool. Inside there is a cosy, contemporary one bedroom apartment with an ensuite shower room and a lovely kitchen with a dishwasher and a radio toaster .

The lounge/diner area has a large sofa bed too and the apartment could comfortably sleep four. We were kindly provided with a brand new travel cot, fan and high chair for baby too.

Nick has provided state of the art television and there are lots of very thoughtful touches such as a landline phone, provided for local calls and there was a healthy array of DVD’s and books and wifi access too.

There was an abundance of cleaning materials, food basics in the cupboards together with long life milk and water and some food and wine in the fridge too. There is a tradition of re-stocking anything you use for the next guests which is a great idea. Do stock up in the Carrefour before arrival as there are no shops nearbye.

My personal favourite was a supply of toiletries provided in the bathroom together with fluffy towels and robes. And there were some cuddly toys too to keep our little boys amused!

We wanted for nothing, as the pool and gardens were enough to keep our little ones amused and we could venture out further whenever we needed to.

If you need help, there is a contact number for the housekeeper whom lives nearbye and she was an absolutely delightful lady who could not do enough for us.

Overall, a sterling experience and we take happy memories away from this holiday. Highly recommend!

Pros:

Well equipped accommodation, quiet location with superb views.
Ferry port is a stone throw away from the beach below, easy ferry access to Como
Free small beach area 5 mins away
Great for a romantic hideaway or a quiet family break

Cons
Slightly tricky road when driving up to the apartment from Como town, but well worth the drive when you see the breathtaking views and the lovely gardens.

This is a gem for a quiet get away. We travelled with our 14 year old and although the swimming pool was well utilised it was too quiet for this age group. Other consideration to note is the village is extremely small with only one restaurant in walking distance. Lake is 2 min walk and crystal clear - beautiful and busy in July. Need to stock up in Como before arrival as no local shops. Bellagio and Mennagio a must. Car imperative. Parking is underground, tight and no bigger than mid-range Ford Focus salon recommended. We had estate wagon and found it a pain.

It is a spotless villa, excellent caretaker and stunning views.

Thank you very much for your kind review. It was a pleasure to have you stay. We are sorry that you were greeted by bad weather, we hope that next time you come here the sun will be out to welcome you. Since your stay with us we have installed a new air management system which is working very well and has made a big difference to the humidity.
