“At home in Ravenna”

Casa dei Poeti is a wonderful home in the middle of Ravenna. Inside, all is peaceful and quiet. Outside, you are in the middle of the ancient city, close to nearly all the World Heritage sites. There are two floors, several rooms equipped with beds and many places to choose from when sitting outside, even a spiral staircase to a small rooftop terrace.

We found the house to be well-equipped (though no bottle of wine, as another visitor mentioned). Although we were late, there was a friendly welcome and a lot of personal recommendations. Casa dei Poeti is very private; whenever we unlocked the front door on the street, we felt as if we were entering our very own “Italian home”.

Drawbacks: Parking is a bit of a challenge, since you can only park at a garage a block away and need to wait for the attendant whenever you need the car or have to drop it off. It can be time-consuming. The shower volume can be maintained if you keep adjusting it, but the area is very small, so flooding the floor is inevitable. However, these are just small problems and part of the individuality of this place.

We found not to have enough time to see everything we wanted in and around Ravenna with a 3-night stay and would recommend taking more time if you are really interested in the history and the sights.

“One of the best houses we have ever stayed in”

Casa dei poeti feels like a beautifully appointed home rather than a holiday let. The owners met us when we arrived and were accessible if we needed them during our stay but were never intrusive.

The house is located in the historic centre of Ravenna within easy walking distance of all the monuments and restaurants,.yet is in an utterly peaceful and safe position..

We came to Ravenna by train from Bologna and were easily able to walk from the station following Manuela's accurate instructions.

You enter the house through a shared hallway which leads to a tiny private courtyard garden from which you get access to the house itself

Once inside you find the rooms tastefully furnished, the beds very comfortable, the kitchen and bathrooms equipped with all you need for a holiday stay. (If you were being picky you could wish for a slightly more powereful shower).

We were a group of friends in our seventies who came to Ravenna to see the mosaics and thoroughly enjoyed coming home to the casa after a day of culture.

This house put the finishing touch to a great holiday. Book it if you can.

“Wonderful stay!”

My sister-in-law and I came to Italy for adventure and to take a mosaics class in Ravenna. We were originally scheduled to stay in a B and B which was so incredibly heartbreakingly awful that upon arrival that we sought help in finding a different accommodations. We were referred to the owner of Casa dei Poeti , the very lovely, gracious and beautiful Manuela and met her at the house. My sister-in-law and I were very pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of this home and its nice furnishings. It has all the comforts of home, a real oasis with a private garden terrace, and set back in seclusion by two sets of doors and a hallway from the street. The place is simply wonderful!
We shared some of the very best times of our entire trip at Casa dei Poeti. I couldn't recommend it any more highly! I just hope its available for our next visit!

“Charming, centrally located house in beautiful Ravenna”

We have just returned from a wonderful week at the Casa dei Poeti. We were a party of 3: 2 adults and a 1 year old toddler and found the property well suited for our needs.

The house is close to the train station and well located to explore much of central Ravenna by foot, but it is also quiet and private. Unlike many Italian holiday rentals Casa dei Poeti is a house: there is a shared front entrance with several other properties but the house is located to the rear of an enclosed courtyard garden and is spacious and comfortable. The house is furnished in a unique and quirky style: the owners have left many books, sculptures, pictures and other objets d'art in the property and many of the (good quality) fittings seem to be original and/or vintage, with a mixture of modern pieces. The overall impression is that you are staying at the house of elegant and cultured friends.

The owners speak excellent English and were friendly and helpful: we had a minor plumbing issue and Manuela was very swift to respond to us. They provided some helpful suggestions for places to visit and eat, although we didn't have time to explore them all. We did enjoy a trip to Comacchio (a quiet mini Venice), and also spent an afternoon at the Castel Guelfo designer outlet, but the most enjoyable part of our holiday was the time we spent pottering around this under appreciated gem of a city. The main mosaic sights offer good value combined tickets which we made the most of, and yet there are still places we didn't manage to get around to visiting this time, although this was partly due to the need to pace things for a toddler.

On that subject, we found it quite easy to cater for our little girl once we had moved the breakable artworks out of her reach! There is a staircase in the house but we were able to shut it off from her, however this may be tricky with a slightly older child. We didn't find many drawbacks, however the shower is an over bath type and the water pressure isn't terribly strong, so power shower lovers may be disappointed. However on the other hand the free wifi was fast and reliable.

Manuela asked us at the end if there had been anything missing: we couldn't think of anything major although it might be useful to have another wooden spoon and a small paring knife.

To sum up, we had a great time and would be happy to stay at the Casa dei Poeti again, although next time I don't think we would bother hiring a car: there is nearby parking but the convenience was outweighed by the extra cost, and the house is very close to public transport links (bus and train).

“A home, not a holiday rental”

This is an extraordinary rental - it's not filled with bland, utilitarian furniture and fittings as so many are, but with books, paintings, works of art and poems - I wish my Italian was good enough to appreciate it better.
It was the home of two writers, parents of one of the owners, and still bears their imprint. Wonderful!
It is well equipped, with comfortable furniture, chosen by a someone with a good eye, and with excellent kitchen and dining utensils.
Situated near the centre of town, it is 5/10 minutes gentle walk from the railway station, and convenient for all the main mosaic attractions, as well as for shops.
Hidden away, it's a delightful place - highly recommended
Very good communications from the owner beforehand, when en route and on arrival
