The Church of Santa Maria del Suffragio was designed by architect Francesco Fontana and built between 1701 and 1728. The structure of the baroque church is unusual for the city as the central plan building has an octagonal perimeter with alternating long and short sides. In the interior, a chapel corresponds to each side of the octagon. Antonio Martinetti sculpted the eight stucco statues of the insideand a painting by Andrea Barbiani hangs behind the alter. The façade of the church has statues and bas-reliefs by Celio and Giovanni Toschini of Ravenna. This is not a spectacular church, but is however quite attractive.
