After spending almost 5 weeks in France and Italy, we ended our trip with a stay in Parma, specifically to take a food tour of the area. We were so lucky to have chosen Artemilia and our guide, Michelle. She met us at our hotel, jumped in our car and we were off on our adventure. We began with a visit to the local Co-op to see how Parmigiano Reggiano cheese was made. Of course we also were able to taste some and buy some to take home. We next visited a small family run Prosciutto Ham factory. The smells there were incredible, the visions of hanging hams memorable. Lunch was next at a local Agroturismo/Restaurant perched high in the hills overlooking gorgeous valley views. Michelle explained the lunch choices and helped us choose. Everything was fresh, perfectly prepared, and devoured! Finally, longing for a nap, we forged on to visit a small Bodega making balsamic vinegar. Wow! Certainly not the same thing we buy at our grocery stores. Although we enjoyed all of our visits, the thing we most enjoyed was our time with Michelle. She was friendly, and very knowledgeable about the places we went. However, more than that, she told us about the history of the area, the daily life of the locals, and good recommendations for where and what to eat, and places we shouldn't miss visiting. I highly recommend Michelle and this wonderful tour.
