Casa Virgilio is a perfect place to stay in Rome. Our hosts, Jean Louis and his wife Laura, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Delicious breakfasts with Laura's homemade cakes, hot rolls with homemade jam and excellent coffee. What more could we want? Jean Louis is always ready to give advice and directions re special places to go: eg the Chiesa di Santa Prassede, or book excellent restaurants for you ( within your budget), or organise a taxi - nothing is too much trouble. If/when we return to Rome Casa Virgilio will be our first choice for a place to stay.

Our group of two couples stayed here for 3 nights as the finale of two weeks traveling Italy. We enjoyed the ability to just walk to the ancient treasures, restaurants, shops, etc. and also have the metro and train station close by. At the end of the day, it was nice to return to our comfortable and clean apartment. Jeanlouis and Laura {the owners} make sure that all is perfect... maid service was provided each day, an Italian breakfast is available including freshly baked goodies if you want {who wouldn't? Thank you Laura}, and if you like ,JeanLouis will provide invaluable information on places to visit while in Rome. He also set up a car to pick us up for our departure for the airport. Very easy and. convenient. .Oh, almost forgot to mention very COMFORTABLE beds. We recommend staying here and will come back if ever visiting Rome.

Jean Louis was the perfect host helping us with transportation, dining suggestions and reservations and sightseeing. He went above and beyond driving us to the train station on a rainy morning when there was no taxi to be had. The apartment is centrally located near the main train station, the Metro, Forum, and Colloseum. The apartment is on a quiet side street and is spacious with a lovely sun room off a courtyard. This is the perfect location for a comfortable visit to Rome, particularly for a group of 4.

I strongly suggest if you'd like to stay in a spacious apartment near the ancient center of Rome that you stay here. This is an excellent accommodation hosted by a most gracious man.

THE MAN: Jean Louis is a very solicitous host. He sincerely wants you to really enjoy your time in what he calls his "lodge" and in his city. He's quite helpful without being intrusive. He also provides a fine breakfast, including homemade cakes and muffins, at no extra charge.

THE LODGE: Your digs are on the street floor, no stairs. The apartment is long and deep consisting of three nicely appointed rooms in addition to the kitchen, the bathroom, and the bedroom nook. There is also a small courtyard. It's all very comfortable, quiet, with air conditioning and wifi, and is completely secure. The front door is made of steel. A miscreant would have to blow the place up to get in.

THE AREA: Monti is a dynamic, central neighborhood. The area is more youthful, a bit faster paced, bit edgier and grittier than Rome's more genteel neighborhoods. It is, however, not at all threatening or ominous. There are nice small shops and good places to eat. Three excellent restaurants include Sciue Sciue for a delicious, yet not expensive, dinner; Zia Rosetta for fabulous sandwiches and salads; and Grazie a Dio e Venerdi for outstanding pizza and large salads.

THE BEST: Jean Louis is an endearing man and Casa Virgilio in Monti provides exceptional value. This is a great place to stay.
