In most squares around the world there are different shapes and sizes of the Egyptian obelix - either as a swap of war or as a reproduction. On the other hand, these ancient columns are more locally embellished and usually tell in truncated pictures (like an antique comic book!) About any major battle or winning victories in the name of someone's great leader ... There are many details to watch and a challenge also to take pictures of, since it is relatively high and narrow!

This is a tall monument which is surrounded by other buildings so worth a look and a photograph. No seats or anywhere to sit. Plenty of other things to see in this area so worth a visit.

This is another great column to spend a view minutes admiring and grabbing photos of. This column is right off of Piazza Venezia and is surrounded y other ruins.

The beauty and detail will truly be appreciated with a telephoto lens or binoculars. The level of details on these columns is very impressive, especially if you consider the age.

This is definitely worth a very small detour to see and grab a few photos of.

As you walk around Rome, you will see many Egyptian obelisk but then you see this and know its not the same. They are smooth. This had such beautiful relief work carved into it. Built around 100 AD.

Located in Foro Traiano (Trajan's Forum) at the north end of Foro de Cesare (Caesar's Forum) adjacent to Altair della Place, the column sports a spiral relief circling slowly up left to right celebrating many victories of the emperor Trajan over 1900 years ago.
In the "ancient Rome" section, it is close to the Colosseum and Roman forums, and definitely worth the visit when you are in that area.
