I just came back from Italy and had a horrible experience with the Spazio Roma in Eataly Roma.
My friend and I decided to go to Eataly last Tuesday to check it out and have dinner there. We met a very friendly lady in the subway who mentioned that the top floor restaurant has a very nice view and they were having a fixed 60€ menu from the Michelin three-star chef NIKO ROMITO. She was not sure if there were still seats available since it usually requires a reservation. We decided to go there to see if they still have seats available. We were not dressed up nicely, we were in our jeans and T-shirt that evening since we were not expecting to go to any nice restaurant that evening. The hostess looked at us and told us that the restaurant was fully booked.
5 minutes later we decided to go back and try to book for next day. We talked to the same hostess again to see if we could make the reservation for Wednesday or Thursday. The hostess just told us that they are closed Wednesdays and didn't even give us a chance to check reservation for Thursday. In the meantime, there was a Italian couple who showed up and they didn't have a reservation either but the hostess told them to wait while she was talking to us and after that she was able to get a table for that couple. Since I speak Portuguese I was able to understand what's going on.
That hostess judged us by appearance and didn't want to seat us because we were not dress up appropriately. She could just tell us about their dress up code and of course if we go back another day we'd have been better dressed!
I think the restaurant who judge customers by appearance does not deserve a Michelin three-star rating! Not even a one star rating.
