The Mercato Trionfale is superb! It was almost literally right across the street from the Air BNB apartment we were staying in, which had a gorgeous kitchen. The market provided all the delicious ingredients for a perfect breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Whatever you wanted, whether baked goods, fresh strawberries, artichokes, prosciutto sliced as thin as paper before your eyes, fish, chicken, kitchen wares, flowers and so forth -- it was all there. This wasn't a tourist place; real neighborhood people were shopping for their cucinas. I could have stayed a month and barely scratched the surface of the offerings, which were as beautiful as they were tasty.

Stocking up for our vacation rental, the day after arriving in Rome I headed out on my own for the Mercato Trionfale, a sizable covered market with numerous stalls offering seasonal produce and others selling olives, fish, cheese, nuts, baked goods and cold cuts. I actually enjoyed standing in line at the butcher’s as I watched him prepare about 40 veal scaloppini for a woman who must have been shopping for a party.
