I very rarely give negative reviews but I was seriously concerned about safety in this apartment, particularly if you are travelling with children.
We rented this apartment at the last minute at New Year and so were limited for choice. We speak Italian and the owner's emails were a little curt with a hint of sarcasm. We know Naples well and it is not a ridiculous question to ask if there is a functioning lift to the 9th floor. As it turned out, in fact when we arrived you needed change to operate the lift at times, this turned out to be the least of our worries.
We were given an address and no specific directions such as the fact that the apartment is set well back off the road of the address and behind a supermarket. It took us a while walking around to find it. When we arrived we rang the number we had been given. We were not told which bell to ring and that we needed to ring a bell on the 9th floor. This meant that we spent more time waiting to be met outside of the apartment. Several phone calls later and a lot of hanging around and we were finally met.
The woman who met us was not the owner and was kind and seemed embarrassed when we complained the following day.
We had been charged a late check in fee. We arrived at 3pm as arranged. It was refunded later but only after Trip Advisor withheld payment from the owner.
The beds had very little bedding. There was no central heating which, to be fair, was not listed in the advert as the owner sarcastically commented in reply to our complaints the next day. However, the gas heater was empty. We found an old electric heater which partially worked in a cupboard. We were unhappy about using another heater which should have been wall mounted as there were vents on the bottom. The electrics in the apartment were dodgy. Many lightbulbs did not work including the one in our room. Some plug sockets were loose. We spent a very cold night with coats on our beds.
The next day we contacted the woman who was looking after the apartment. It was New Year's Eve and we felt very upset that our morning was spent waiting for a gas bombola. The woman did try to help and got out some single quilts.
The shower was completely blocked and the bath was filthy. My husband found a bottle of drain unblocker in a cupboard and unblocked the waste outlet so we could take showers.
This is far from a splendid apartment. The view of the terrace and the windows is splendid but you would be better off taking a tent and camping on the roof.
We did receive an apology and our refund of the late check in fee from the owner on the morning of our departure but this was too little too late. We were also given free tickets to a museum, again too late and should have been given complimentary anyway!
