I probably say this about all the Cathedrals we visit but again I must say the architecture and interior is so wonderful! It is hard to comprehend how clever and gifted these builders were all those centuries ago and it is a fitting tribute that now in the 21st century we can still admire and marvel at their workmanship..............BEAUTIFUL.....takes your breath away.

We stayed for about 40 minutes most of it in silence with other visitors just in awe of this wonderful building. You do not need be a Catholic or religious to see and love the beauty of the place..........

"" Davvero magnifico ""

So glad we decided to visit this amazing cathedral.
Without a doubt worth a visit, so many amazing things to see.
We were lucky enough to see part of a wedding.

Check the opening times as they are closed for a few hours over lunchtime and for mass.
Well worth a visit - the interior is, as usual for Italy, absolutely beautiful and ornate.
It is worth paying the few euro to go into the baptistry where the origins of the church can be found which are completely different from the main Duomo.

This cathedral, Gothic in design and completed in the 14th century and since then restored several times over, is the home to the Crypt and the Chapel of Naples Patron Saint, San Gennaro. Also it is where the Festival of San Gennaro, the infamous blood liquefaction ceremony takes place three times a year. It always works, otherwise Naples with face some bad doings. There's a possible scientific explanation for this phenomenon, but never mind. See the frescoes, altar pieces, and the bronze railing. frescoes in the Basilica of Santa Restituta are something special.

This is a beautiful, ornate cathedral in Naples, and as has been said many times there are so many to choose from, so for religious people, those who like art and those who love architecture, there is lots to be seen. Like the rest this has all that you want to see, religious iconography and a mix of Baroque, Gothic and Byzantine art/architecture. The chapels are amazing and writing this review after a couple of weeks makes you realise that it is difficult to distinguish between many of them. It is just set back on a main road and it is difficult to see the dome from outside, but it can be seen from miles around.
