We just named our new kitten Lo Sfizio (calm down...we don't call him by his full name; we call him "Fizzy") because we fell in love with this fabulous restaurant that we went to on a chance encounter in Capri. Please don't hold this "naming our cat after a restaurant idea" against us...the meal/service/experience was just so divine that we had to honor it the best way we knew how: by naming something we love after the experience.
In the interest of full disclosure, it has been a year since we ate at Lo Sfizio...but honestly we still talk about it like it was yesterday. In fact, we compare most meals against the meal we had at Lo Sfizio. We were staying in Sorrento for the first part of our honeymoon and we took a day cruise around the coast that allowed us 4 hours in Capri. We knew only minimal details about Capri but we absolutely loved it. We hiked around (taking the steps everywhere, sweating horribly), did some shopping, got lost, and annoyingly took some selfies, of course. Amidst all these activities, we also realized we were ravenous at around 2:00 pm or so. We hiked to Lo Sfizio because someone had recommended it (I honestly can't remember who recommended it) and they welcomed us with open arms despite the sweatiness and exhaustion, and despite the fact that they were probably finishing lunch service and getting ready for dinner service. No matter, they treated us like old friends! They placed us in a beautiful outdoor table that allowed plenty of shade and respite from the heat while still allowing us to feel like we were dining al fresco, which was one of our favorite activities in Italy (we somewhat regrettably live in Cincinnati, where it is always overcast, unfortunately). The breeze was exactly what we needed, but the bottle of wine managed to beat the breeze. Then came the food. Oh my goodness! My husband had a pizza and pasta (the pizza came first and the pasta second, although I may be mixing this up) while I had the eggplant parmigiana. I find eggplant to be delicious so I ate a ton of it while we honeymooned and this was hands down the best eggplant parmigiana I have ever had. I am being completely honest when I say I will try this dish at any restaurant anywhere (domestic and abroad) to try to find a restaurant whose dish rivals the eggplant parmigiana I had that day, and I'm very certain I will never find something even remotely similar. I could have bathed in the tomato sauce they baked the eggplant in because it was so beyond delicious. I have never had anything as delicious and probably never will until I go back to Lo Sfizio. Fresh cheese, fresh tomato, fresh eggplant, fresh herbs...it makes such a difference. Anyway, enough about that. The pizza and pasta were mind blowing as well. Melt in your mouth ingredients and high quality all the way. It was just nothing short of perfection. I have to say that this was one of the major highlights of our honeymoon and we can't thank Lo Sfizio enough.
The service was amazing in addition to the food, and they really made us feel welcome here. In fact, we stayed for over two hours, which probably meant we overstayed our welcome but they didn't make us feel like we overstayed any welcome at all. It was a magical afternoon and we would go back a thousand times if we had the chance. Hopefully someday we will.
I'm sorry for being so wordy but I want everyone to know how magical this place is. You simply can't miss it!
