This is one of the budget cave hotels in Matera and you get what you pay for. The 'cave' experience depends on the room you get but even then I think there are more authentic looking rooms in other properties (but based on our research they were more expensive as well.) The rooms have been modernised quite a bit and that shows.
The best part about this hotel is definitely the Spa. At 20 euros per person, we had access to a beautiful and warm underwater lagoon which was a boon in the cold weather. However, the jacuzzi area had very few knobs so people were waiting around a lot for others to finish.
Now the worst part. The food. I am not a picky eater but, my god, this place will definitely go as one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. The spread is mainly sweet because the locals eat like that, which is fine. But, the food tasted mighty disgusting, and that's me putting it mildly.
Do yourself a favour and enjoy the hotel and spa but eat OUT!More
