Owner description: The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica

Don't leave Barcelona without visiting this amazing place - however, make sure you book ahead to ensure you are admitted as it's very popular.

Gaudi's masterpiece is breath-taking. Reaching the completion date in 2026 the interior is almost finished and is beyond description in it's beauty. The stained glass windows are magnificent, and when the light hits the walls from certain directions they glow like back-lit alabaster. The ceiling is glorious. The minute attention to detail of every aspect of the building, both inside and outside, is incredible. Check out the green exterior doors to either side of the main entrance and see what you can spot.

First of all, it's better if you buy your ticket online. I really enjoyed the sun that it comes through the colored windows and it's felt like you are in the rainbow. In addition I enjoyed the tower and the view up there, but the balcony it's really small. Highly recommend in sunny days!

This is a sight to see. Gorgeous exterior, but even more incredible inside. Amazing biblical sculptures. This is unlike any cathedral you have ever scene. It is very whimsical and full of beautiful stainglass colors and light inside! The amazing artist, Gaudi is famous throughout Europe for his interesting, different, and wacky designs!

Words can't describe this church. We spent over two hours in the church and took many pictures which don't to it justice. It is a MUST SEE!
