This is a great appartment and we really enjoyed our week here in January. The first thing to note is that the photos on TripAdvisor are an exact representation of what you get ; all are up to date.
The appartment is on a one-way street parallel to the beach and 3 blocks /5 minutes away. A coffee shop, bakery and supermarket are all within 100m and all are good ! The beach itself has a 2km long promenade that contains plenty of restaurants etc.
We spent a lot of our time at the appartment on the balcony for breakfast and evening drinks. Even when it rained it was well sheltered and there was always something going on outside. However there was never enough street noise to keep us awake as night as the bars are not on the same street.
It is very well equipped ; strong and stable wifi, a modern washing machine and a spacious shower were the highlights for us, but there is really nothing missing from the kitchen if you want to live here for an extended period.
Ricardo (the owner) added a lot of value to our holiday. This was the second of our three weeks in Gran Canaria and we knew what we wanted to do, but Ricardo gave us invaluable guidance to detail along the north coast that we could not have got from guidebooks ; for us the Sunday market in Teror and hiking in the Agaete valley were the stand-out days.
If you have a hire car then parking on the street is not easy or financially worthwhile. For arrival /departure loading /unloading we used the underground car park on Calle Padre Cueto about 200m away (2 hours at 5 Euros), but for overnight Ricardo pointed us to the parking near the aquarium about 800m /10 minutes walk away (2.50 Euros per day / put Poema De Mar Aquarium in the sat nav).
We had a really good time here and would highly recommend it !
Spacious, clean, cosy, feels-like-home apartment situated literally in a middle of the most attractive part of Las Palmas. Everything is in a short walking distance - beach, Promenade, shops, cafes, restaurants. Apartment is very clean, all that you need is there - washing machine, fridge, cooker, microwave, iron, smart TV, WiFi, dishes and cutlery, towels, bed linen. The balcony was my favorite place to chill and observe the evening life of this vibrant city.
Ricardo met me and my husband despite our flight delay, guide us through the apartment, explained everything, gave us some useful tips how to get about, where to eat, what to visit, welcomed us with a bottle of chilled wine. Pilar was helping with some translations over the phone when we needed one. Anytime we needed something - they responded straight away.
We had a great time and can't wait to come back next year.
Thank you Pilar and Ricardo once again.
When we arrived in Las Palms it was lovely to find Ricardo waiting for us outside the apartment and immediately he made us feel so welcome. He gave us a full run down on what the apartment had to offer. It's clean, modern, has a very good kitchen, a comfortable bed and just 5 minutes from the beach and the bus station. The information on the local layout that Ricardo gave us on our arrival was excellent, the complementary wine and biscuits was lovely. The location of the apartment was ideal for us. It is a lovely city with a relaxing atmosphere, great food, and we always felt safe as we wondered through the streets. For the ladies there is as much shopping as your mans wallet can afford. If you plan to take a day trip south to the likes of the beautiful Puerto de Mogan do avoid the no.1 bus as it stops everywhere, instead take the no.91 express. This takes about an hour and a half.
After arriving at the airport and taking the Number 60 Global bus from there to Las Palmas we arrived at Santa Catalina bus terminal quite late in the evening around 9pm. We followed the instructions given by our hosts to the apartment about ten minutes walk from the bus station, through the park. Where the locals were having a fun night out in the restaurants spilling out onto the pavements. Having sent our hosts a text from the airport letting them know of our arrival they were waiting and waving from the balcony with big smiles ready to help us with our luggage into the apartment.
We received a very thorough demonstration of all the appliances and were told all we needed to know about living there for two weeks. The map was out on the table to show us where to go and what to do. After their departure, we sat out on the balcony sipping the lovely red wine they had left as a welcome.
Two sets of keys were supplied and the security in and around the area was excellent. We never once felt any threat from any source at night or day. A single person will feel perfectly safe at all times. It must be one of the safest places in the world. The locals were kind and helpful and very tolerant of our broken Spanish. Brush up beforehand or learn a few handy phrases before you go. The bus services cheap, efficient and on time.
Enough clean linen and towels were in supply in the apartment, also for the beach. Toiletries, beauty products, loo paper and lots of cleaning products as well. We found that for once the storage space supplied for our belongings was sufficient, a wardrobe and chest of drawers. The vanity in the bathroom under the wash basin was very conveniently furnished with little drawers and well placed mirrors.
All the tools for cleaning were stored in a tidy cupboard on the balcony plus an iron. Detergent for laundry as well. The washing machine was efficient and easy to operate. Clothes were dried on the balcony. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery, pots and pans and utensils. The knives were all very blunt, except for the bread knife. The fridge freezer was large. The cooker was in good working order. Coffee and tea, and condiments and basic herbs and spices in good supply. We hardly had to buy anything extra except fresh food and topping up the supplies we used.
Spar shop around the corner to the left. Close to the Spar is a cafe that makes fresh churros to order for enjoying with coffee or chocolate. Bar, coffee shop and bakery round the corner to the right. There is a very large supermarket in the brand new shopping centre towards the harbour where the cruise ships dock. Shop till you drop for anything and everything under the sun. Eating places and watering holes included.
Ceiling fans in the bedroom and sitting area. The mattress and pillows were comfortable. A light duvet covered the bed over a sheet. Once the sliding door on the balcony was closed all noise were excluded. We did not use the smart TV but used the fast and efficient fibre optic WiFi all the time. Enough wall sockets, well placed. Pamphlets of local attractions, maps, magazines, bus timetables and books in Spanish and German are supplied. The tourist information centre in the park was useful and gave information in English. There is also a handy kiosk to buy bus tickets from for the yellow bus. Or by a ticket from the driver on boarding the bus.
Walking along the promenade and drinking coffee or something alcoholic or not while staring out over the sea is the local pass time. Sitting on the soft yellow sand and paddling in the gentle waves are too. La Puntilla is a windless area towards La Isleta at all times. Packed with restaurants serving the fresh catch of the day. Some do close on Sundays but not a lot and remember about siesta time. Lots of banks and cash machines available.
Look out carefully for the public toilets on the promenade ( they are underground) and you will find them. Clean and free. Marked on the tourist info display boards if you have a problem finding one.
