The Hotel Maria Christina is hands down the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in. I've stayed in other 5 star hotels, but this is definitely the only one that blew me away. The building is beautiful on the inside and outside and decorated rather elegantly. I don't typically like gold as it can often look garish, but it actually made the place feel very regal and luxurious. The ceilings are high (even in the rooms) making it feel very grand. Everything is clean and modernized despite the more classic decor.

The rooms are giant, bigger than any standard hotel room I've ever seen. We had one couple in a standard room and us in a family room. Our room had a a huge king size bed that was possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on, a full or queen size bed, a sitting area with a fireplace, a large separate foyer, and a bathroom with a full tub, separate toilet room, and large standing shower. All the furniture, plumbing, and finishes in our room were high quality and modern. Everything was very neat and clean. Having spent 3 weeks traveling through Europe, staying in different places I can't tell you how much of a luxury having a large, modernized, clean room was - especially one with a standing shower that can fit more than one person.

Additionally, the staff were all very nice, helpful, and professional. One of our party members can be a bit difficult and demanding, but the hotel staff were helpful and accommodating. They answered all of her questions, requests, and fixed the accidental mix up that occurred.

The food was also excellent. We ate one night in Ezcaray which was very good. I highly recommend the experience if you like unique, fine-dining, Michelin level dining experiences. We ate in the bar for a meal which was also very good, but it does get crowded in there between 7-8.

The hotel is also very conveniently located. It is very close to the old town area so if you are interested in doing pinxto crawls, it's only 4 blocks away. The beach is probably 6-8 blocks away, and the aquarium was about a mile. There's shopping all over the area so you won't have to walk far for that either.

If you want a purely luxurious hotel experience, I can't recommend Hotel Maria Christina enough!

The Maria Christina is a landmark property set one block from the old city and one block from the beach so the location could not be better. A large luxury hotel traditionally styled with all the big hotel amenities that you would require such as concierge desk, valet parking, small gym, good internet service. The rooms are typical European traditional décor and the bathrooms are large and well appointed with great products. Our room had the largest king size bed I have ever seen and a nice view overlooking the town and a large courtyard.

Since San Sebastian Spain is a large “foody” destination having the concierge desk to help with reservations and dining ideas was a big plus. (Read my separate entry on San Sebastian for more details on dinning and things to do). We ate breakfasts only at the hotel and the service, food quality and venue were all excellent. Maria Christina is the” go to” hotel for luxury travelers to San Sebastian and certainly deserving of their strong reputation.

GREAT hotel! Fantastic service, fantastic location, fantastic room, fantastic breakfast (ok - expensive but worth it)! Biggest bed we ever slept in (two queens combined?) and softest toilet paper (yes - that’s a thing). Highly recommended!

Our first time in San Sebastián but definitely won’t be our last. We tried to book again in September but it was fully booked, it’s definitely worth booking early.

For our June trip we booked late so could only get a suite - well what a result!! It was magnificent and a real treat.

We have two small dogs and we and they were made so welcome, the lovely bed for them and bowls and treats really was a touch of class.

The ambiance and decor or the hotel and rooms throughout is 5star and it deserves all the accolades it receives.

And as for San Sebastián, it is full of places to explore and places to eat...we will be back.

This is class, chic, elegance and service. The bar, the lobby, the restaurants and the oversized rooms with a view. All are top and make this a memorable stay in this extraordinary city. its a home away from home.

Room Tip: River view
