It’s impossible to walk through Real Alcazar and not marvel at many components. We were impressed by the courtyards. Courtyards were certainly used to display considerable gardening skills, but also the placement of courtyards in the construction of the palace do a great deal to create cooling breezes in the structure.

Apparently, different parts of the palace are available for viewing depending upon the presence of royalty. Without seeing rooms that are used regularly as living space, a tour still leaves one marveling over the tile and ceiling work. There is limited furniture to see in the public areas.

We toured the palace with a guide, something I would recommend to get the most of your tour. Our guide provided antidotes which would otherwise have been unavailable. And avoiding the line is an additional benefit.

We had seen the Alhambra a few days earlier, and were so enamored of that time, but this just overwhelmed our senses. It is huge - start early in the day. Make sure your camera is well charged. The interiors range in age to the middle centuries and are largely lovingly maintained. Hard not to show some wear at this age. There are audio tours if you don't like walking and reading the signs. The gardens are almost another day, if you really like to get out and see it all. The topiary, the maze, statutes, and walks are amazing. Flowers were blooming in the spring, and I am not sure we could have picked a better time. The fountain that uses hydraulic pressure to produce music in the garden was well worth the wait until the top of the hour. It can be crowded; notably about mid-day and into the early afternoon. There is a very lovely cafe there. It is in the middle of the city, so you can easily wander out for dinner later. Just a beautiful place, and well worth however many hours you choose to use.

A lovely visit to the magnificent building and gardens still in use by the Royal Family on occasion. Book tickets in advance to avoid the queue!

I’ve read quite a few reviews of the organisation or lack of a5 the entrance.. well it’s all true. There are 3 queues. One for tour groups one for pre booked one for dimwits who like t9 wait for hours. The trouble is even though we had tickets for opening the people who are too lazy to,prebook end up blocking everyone. By some miracle an official appears pushing them out of the way looking at our tickets and waving us through within a few minutes. Some tips.... if you haven’t booked an audio guide get a written one as you pass through ticket verification. Also we booked the combination ticket that costs about 16 euros plus fee which gets you entry also to the Royal High Rooms for which you get an audio guide for at the entrance to the rooms. It’s very limited. The tickets that I bought on line for this combination give you a precise time..WHICH IS FOR THE HIGH room entry NOT you arrival at the Alcazar....It is recommended you arrive 30 mins prior.if you are late bad luck. After the High Room tour we headed out into the gardens where we spent a leisurely 2 house with coffe and cake at the outdoor cafe. Superb gardens just lovely and so well set out. Just wander.

It's a nice place to take your time and wander around.

It's a good place to spend a lot of your "precious" time and wander around pointlessly, and perhaps realise that time itself will outlast all of us. As will probably the water organ, even if the last master of water organs don't find a worthy apprentice.
