We stayed here for three nights at the beginning of September, in Room 22.

The Dude is located in the East of Berlin, and is a boutique style hotel with a relatively small number of rooms. It is definitely a trendy hotel, with decor to match, though it is not what you might call "try hard". It was expensive, at over £200 a night, but this might have been due to the fact that a major media exhibition was talking place in the city.

We had breakfast included, which is a buffet style with cold meats, breads, pastries and bacon/sausages and eggs (boiled and scrambled). You could do better locally for a lot less, in honesty, though you get unlimited tea, coffee, juices etc, so you could well decide that this, along with the convenience, makes it worthwhile.

The room was nice, well decorated, with a mini-bar fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and a hair dryer. There is also a safe (key operated), though the key is on the (heavy) solid brass object to which it and the room key are attached, and which you are encourages to leave with reception should you venture out (its far to heavy to keep in a pocket, maybe it would be ok in a womans handbag or a backpack).

The bed was a very good size and had a very comfortable mattress. There were two plump and soft duvets provided. The bed and bedding were very good.

The room is a reasonable size, though not overly large. The bathroom was quite small, however, with no bath and only a shower, a basin and a toilet. The shower door hits the basin when you open it and the toilet is compactly squeezed in between the shower cubicle and the wall. Its quite compact, though perfectly serviceable.

There is no air conditioning, so it could be quite uncomfortable in the summer, though there is a very large plantation style ceiling fan that might help. Our room was at the back where there is some major redevelopment underway that looks like it could take some time to complete. Due to the lack of air conditioning we had the windows open and the workmen were no respecters of a lay-in or a hangover. Worth thinking about maybe asking for a room at the front if the works are still ongoing.

All in all, a nice enough place, with a couple of minor niggles that might be forgivable if you are getting a deal, but took the gloss off considering the price point this came in at this time. Fantastic if you are getting a good price.

Oh - there is a fantastic looking steak place attached to the hotel, which doubles as the hotel bar. Not cheap, and gets very busy so reservations recommended. The food, especially the steak, looked amazing.

Room Tip: If the development work at the rear is complete, get a room at the back as it will be quieter with the windows open than at the front.

Dear Family Mackmin,

thank you very much for your review, every opinion counts to do it better!

As you said, the price was higher thank usual because of the media exhibition taking place in Berlin.

It was a pleasure for us to host you and we hope to see you back in Berlin one day!

This Hotel is stunning in multiple ways:
The young staff is superb: Friendly, always helpful and capable.
The Hotel location is perfect between two subway line stations (two different lines!) and a Busstation all in 3 min walk. At the same time the room was calm although facing the street (excellent window and door to the room).
The Hotel is in a old Hotel building from 17th century, but fully renovated with modern standard and design which is a great contrast. Definitely not your ordinary Hotel.
Breakfast is either 7€ and small or 14€ for the full buffet including eggs made to order.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street are also calm.

We stayed here for 3 nights in August and loved it. The finish was really good quality, the rooms and general feel of the hotel were so quirky. The hotel is in an excellent spot, we hired bikes from the hotel and explored Berlin. The staff were all lovely, helpful and polite. It was my birthday while we were there and a bottle of wine and a card were left in our room. I loved this place and would definitely stay again.

I chose to stay at the dude hotel as it advertises itself as a boutique hotel which I thought very fitting for Berlin. I am a young traveller so a hotel like this is a big treat. On arrival I felt quite unwelcome. I had to carry my luggage up the stairs myself.
The room was as advertised- the decor was lovely. However I found several hairs in my bed. There was no welcome glass of champagne as advertised on the website and on trip advisor. When I inquired about the welcome glass of champagne I was told because they're under new management they are no longer offering it. I then told them about the hairs all over the bedding and this was rectified and I got a glass of champagne.

Overall I was disappointed with the ambience and the customer service although the rooms are well presented.

Great hotel with funky, individual style. Nothing like a chain hotel, the Dude has lots more fun and character. Very clean, large rooms stylishly decorated and good choice of accessories, cotton bathrobes, Dab radio, Molton Brown toiletries, coffee machine, etc. All major sights in easy reach, 2 minutes to underground or 20 mins nice walk over the river Spree to Alexander Platz where the TV Tower is in centre of Berlin. Nice bakery and a lovely bar approx 3 minutes walk away to the pretty canal. Stayed 4 nights and would love to go back anytime.
