First visit at Hotel Sommer

Review of Hotel Sommer
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 May 2024
Thanks to generous colleagues I’ve had a huge Hotel Sommer voucher to spend.
My first impressions arrivung at the Hotel ground was - Oh, that looks nice. But where’s the water of the Lake Forrggensee? It looks like low tide at sea.
Later I’ve learned that Lake Forggensee is a reservoir which will be emptied every October and filled in May/June every year.
I’ve booked a Superior double room with half board and a massage at the Spa. And wisely, because of the weather conditions we had to expect a parking space in the underground parking lot.
I was greeted by a warm welcome at the reception desk and got a card folder which hold the hotel room card as well as four complimentary “Füssen - Cards” – Guest cards of Füssen Tourism & Marketing. These cards are offering discounts for cultural excursions.
I also got a Parking card for my car.
Entering the room, I’ve booked I was a bit surprised. Everything looked a bit worn out. I think the photos of the furniture are made a couple of years ago. Which isn’t a problem - but, out of my view, a 4* Hotel must update photos to meet the expectation of the guests.
There was a bag with towels in different sizes, and a Sauna Towel as well.. Very good idea of the management. Going to the Wellness area meant just take the bag, your book or whatever and go on.
Fluff Bathrobes were placed on the wardrobe.
The bathroom was nice and huge – what I’ve appreciated. Enough towels small and big. But here is a small downer. The room is on the second floor and the bathroom has a sloping roof. I had to check where I am before raising my arms in front of the sink and mirror.
Beside this, there was a welcome on the “desk” as well as a glass drinking tube with a summer drink recipe. At the door handle was a sign for the house keeping - Green Option – for the sake of the environment. Compliments to Management – a very good idea.
Every Morning there was a “Morning Post” with relevant news as well as the menu for the evening. Of course, in the evening there was menu card as well.
The five course Dinner was worth a 4* Hotel Chef and his Team.
Thank you to the waitresses and waiter and the Restaurant – you are doing a great job!
The Breakfast Buffet offers everything you are looking for. Even a station for freshly made omelets, fried eggs, pancakes and so on. I don’t want to bore you with all the details. Go and try for yourself.
The Wellness area is a wonderful place to relax, having a swim, doing something for your fitness in the fitness room, and relax on swing sofas. Yes, swing sofas – absolute fantastic. Of course, there are fresh towels so you just take the wet towels away a fresh dry ones from several shelfs in the wellness area.
Because it was raining cats and dogs, and it was cold I’ve decided not to go for a swim in the outdoor pool. Even it has a water temperature of 29°C.
The indoor pool is nice, has massage nozzles and the water temperature has 30°C.
But – there are no instructions how to use the massage nozzles, or where these are placed an the pool walls. I found it because I’ve seen a guest was surrounded by bubbles – Aha – that’s what I wanted to try for me.
When I went for my booked massage, I had to go upstairs to the Spa area. There’s a reception desk, which was not occupied.
So I took a seat and was waiting. I was waiting to be welcomed and getting a health form to fill out. This is what I am used to at all the 4* and 5* Hotels I stayed and booked treatments. But – here – nothing.
I’ve seen a woman bustling around, no greetings, no welcome to the Spa. That’s not good for a place like this.
After my booked time passed the woman was standing in a door frame of a room. and called my name. The room seemed to me not very welcoming – nothing like a massage room I really know out of my experiences – just a room, with no privacy to change cloths.
She asked me if she must take care of health issues, if I I’m having some.
So, I explained to where she has to care of.
She then handed me a single use slip and you know what – she didn’t leave the room when I had to get undressed (taking of my swmsuit) and putting on the slip. Out my view that’s no manner at all. Of course you might say, why didn’t you ask her to leave the room – you know what, I didn’t because I wanted to know what she’s up to. Nothing, she was just waiting until I've put the single use slip on.
After the massage she left the room so could change back into my swimsuit. She was waiting for me at rthe eception desk with a plastic glass of orange infused water and a paper I had to sign, that I’ve got the massage.
Goodbye and that’s it, it seemed to me.

All in all, everybody at the hotel is very kind, helpful and professional. I liked the small talks with the people at the hotel and will be back again.
And I hope, you’ll stay at the hotel as will do next time I’m in the Allgäu.

Lovely hotel in a terrific location. Good-sized room. Very good leisure facilities and laundry facilities. Good range of choice at breakfast and dinner, with no real limit on how much you can eat. All food very well prepared and staff friendly. Not a cheap stay, but good value.

What an excellent family run hotel: beautiful surroundings, wonderful foot and friendly staff. The high point of our return journey from Tuscany back home. Our dog loved swimming in the Forggensee and we enjoyed a boat trip before the next leg of our journey

From the outside and the surrounding area of the hotel is nice. However, don't let it fool you as the rooms have furniture and decoration from late 1990s. While this in itself isn't a problem, for the price of the hotel, you'd expect a more modern and newer amenities in the rooms. Additionally, there was only one person working the front desk when we are checking in. Also, I'm not sure if this is with all the rooms but our carpet had a smell and the windows are not very sound proof as we could overhear other guests chatting and smoking until 2am with our windows closed.

The hotel breakfast buffet is nice, but there is only 1 coffee machine for all the guests. Needless to say, you will surely wait in a long queue for your coffee. The omelette is great but highly suggest you to avoid the bread. It is harder than a rock!!! Another positive is the all you can eat salad bar for dinner, highly recommend.

The parking is also an issue as the hotel does not separate parking for the restaurant and hotel guests, creating unnecessary chaos. The parking garage is for small cars only and our rental SUV could not fit. It would be nice if they create a separate bike lane for the guests who use it so when cars entering and leaving the parking lot, it is safer for both the cars and the cyclists.

One last thing, upon check out, it was pointed out hotel WiFi costs 8 Euro a night. One suggestion to the hotel: Don't list this! Or better yet waive the charge! It's 2022, not 2005!

Fabulous spa hotel. Beautiful spa with 2 pools and many hot saunas. Fabulous breakfast and dinner. Very close to hikes and wanderwegs. The staff speak great English and are very friendly. Rooms have been updated and are adorable with a cute Bavarian touch. You can rent bikes and walk around the lake. Beautiful views. Save.mineynans book thru the hotel instead of booking.com

Really like this hotel in term of the surroundings of Germany town, by the lake, view of Alps. Giving me a feeling of relax and wellness! Staff are very friendly. I am from Singapore, and stayed Sommer Hotel in Sept with cool temperature. My most enjoyable feel was swimming indoor and outdoor pools with view of snow on Alps top! I also love the Wellness spa. Great to walk around the hotel by the lake in the morning. Morning breakfast buffet is good with sun through the restaurant glass roof. Highly recommended to stay in Fussen. My stay purpose visit is Neuschwanstein Castle, and short drive to destination

Room tip: Bring swimming attire for spa. Plan longer stay if u like hiking and bicycle around
