“A hidden architectural wonder”
Review of Asam Church

Asam Church

Located on an extremely busy shopping street in Munich between Sendlinger Tor & Marienplatz, nobody would know that it is a church unless they read the stone placards. One expects a church to have space all around it to walk, but here, the walls are connected to the adjoining buildings giving it somewhat of a camouflage.

Once you enter, you are going to be awed at the golden ornaments & the stunning & creative architecture. However, what was most stunning was the painting on the ceiling, which illustrates multiple different stories.

There is also a small underground prayer room/tombstone which you can visit.
Definitely worth a visit.

This somewhat unassuming church on the outside, amidst shopping and commercial buildings, is a huge, jaw-dropping surprise inside. Baroque paintings and sculptures on every surface - the work of the Asam brothers - overwhelm. Even if you aren't a fan of Baroque art, it's worth a stop to see.

Did not separate itself in anyway, but worth walking through while touring the area. Most churches in Europe are worth a look, and are beautiful compared to the US.

This is THE gaudiest interior of any building I have ever seen. The church is located on a very nice, upscale pedestrian shopping street and worth popping in. It was a kick!

This church is unlike anything I have seen or studied. (Was an art history major as an undergrad). Small church, but may take you a few minutes to absorb the over the top Baroque architecture.
