Description: With its Bavarian cuisine the Wirtshaus Ayingers embodies lively inn tradition at a historic site. From original Munich 'Weisswurst' and roasts to fresh fish from nearby lakes - we serve fresh and creative dishes in the heart of Bavaria's capital. Of course no meal is complete without the exquisite beers from the family-owned brewery in Aying. Six draft beers are available daily. The furnishings are rustic and cosy, and 140 seats provide lots of authentic "Wirtshaus" character. Eighty additional spaces are available on the patio in the summer. Yes, this is traditional ambience - but that does not mean doing without modern conveniences: Free wireless LAN means that business or private matters can be attended to directly.

We visit Ayinger often when we're in Munich, it's one of the smaller, quieter restaurants, but great food and great beer. It's always a pleasure sitting outside in the square and watching the world go past. The service is good, typically German, which might be frustrating for English or American visitors who are used to over the top service, but I digress, the staff are attentive, polite, and don't pester you which is something I appreciate.

...definitely the better place to have a drink and some food vs. the other place across the Platzl that is fuuuuulllllll of tourists and has many many unfriendly servers...This place has some space inside and outside, many different beers to chose from, friendly people taking care of you. And: despite the Platzl being superbusy with tourists, sitting by the bar is just the perfect spot to be with enough "peace" and still the "open air" feeling.

We had the duck with dumplings and the pork steak with dumplings. Both meats good, the portions were also good, the quality as well. The corn dumplings were really bad, without any taste, downgraded the quality of the food.

We booked this restaurant after they said they could cater for gluten free.

There were a few options, but you must speak to your server because they don’t seem to be on the menu. I had trout with salad and asparagus. There is a disclaimer for cross contamination...I’ll be waiting that one out! I am quite a sensitive gluten free person; I often find places have to say that for fear of backlash, just in case (this is just personal experience though; it can vary from day to day, visit to visit! All at your own risk!).

The service was brilliant though, the staff are very helpful and attentive. The Riesling wine is a definite must if you’re a wine drinker, and there is plenty of beer to choose from if that’s your preference.

The portion sizes are quite big, and as with most traditional German food, high on the carb scale!

I would recommend; but coeliacs be prepared to use your personal judgement. It is definitely worth a visit for a drink though!

Took family here twice this visit and both times were fantastic. Service was outstanding (friendly and helpful), beer is great, loved everything we tried food-wise and it is a great location (across street from Hofbräuhaus). Look forward to coming back on our next visit to Munich.
