After reading Trip Advisor reviews I had extremely high expectations. And whilst Une Autre Histoire may indeed surpass many of its contemporaries in Annecy I don't think it is worthy of the raves it has received. The service is quite fast. The so called Lobster Risotto starter special was NOT actually a risotto but a few small tasty pieces of lobster in a splendid sauce which was then rather spoiled by spooning it on top of precooked very "al dente" steamed rice. My partner and self both had scallops for our main plate. The were quite flavourful and impeccably cooked. The sauce was marvellous but insufficient especially as once again the scallops and very tiny vegetables were placed on top of very hard unflavoured al dente rice. Perhaps there's a place for al dente rice in cooking but I've yet to discover it !! The Assiette of Desserts was an eye popper with 9 separate mini desserts (plus strawberry) served on sheet of black slate. Looked stunning but some of the mini desserts seemed a bit stale. Besides that my palate couldn't cope with so many sweet and sometimes very strong flavours at one time. Another (rather common nowadays) example of eye art being more important than truly good cuisine. Anyhow, the chef at Une Autre Histoire definitely has talent and will probably improve with experience. The three course 37 Euro menu is worth the money. And having looked at the 49 Euro Degustation menu I'd now be confident that it is also worth the money. When I freshly evaluate what I've just written I can now see that if the chef didn't make so much use of al dente cooked rice my review would have been more positive.
