We visited Foundation Maeght on the recommendation of a friend. We travelled with the bus from Nice to St. Paul de Vence which is an old town on top of a hill, very touristic even during October but is a must. Stunning views from the walls - not easy to walk, small high-up walking strip on the inside of the wall with no protection from falling. So, only for those that are brave, young enough and fit... But the view is fantastic. The town is full of all sorts of art- and giftshops. We were done with this visit within 2 hrs and walked to the Fondation Maeght which is on another hill about 2 km away from St. Paul.
The foundation exhibits the most complete Miro collection - paintings and sculptures that we have seen in an environment unseen before. High pines, olive trees, stone walls surround the magnificent buildings that host the paintings of Miro, Chagall, the sculptures of Miro and Giaccometti. Not many people were with us, so we had exclusive views and could take photos. The place has a unique atmosphere, magic and beautiful. We enjoyed the place for 3 hrs and took the bus down to Nice, Place Phoenix. We are very happy we did this tour. It is a must for people that love art, beautiful landscape and a peaceful environment.
