Stayed here for 4 nights. Very well located right next to the theatre. We were lucky enough to have a SUPERB room that had a balcony looking right onto the theatre. Maybe the best room in the whole town/city! Room was a good size and clean. Parking whilst not on site is good as hotel has a deal with local multi storey car park, and staff will come with you in your car to show you were it is and how it works. Staff were mostly helpful and friendly though on occasion we got the impression that the odd member of staff found it slightly difficult to keep this up! But a really good place to stay in Arles.

I stayed at this hotel for a single night stay. Despite arriving before check in time, I was greeted by a very friendly and helpful lady at reception, who took me and my bags to my room. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The WiFi signal was very strong allowing me to work in my room. There is a snack bar in reception selling drinks, salads, sandwiches and cakes. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this hotel. So much more welcoming than the usual chain hotels that I stay in whilst travelling.

My husband and I just spent two nights at Le Calendal. It was a wonderful experience. The hotel is in an area that has limited access for automobiles, and we did not have a phone with a chip to call the desk to remove the barrier. They sent a young man down with a phone to call for us, and then, after dropping the luggage off he rode with us to the parking structure at the bottom of the hill and showed us the way back. The hotel did our laundry at a reasonable price, had a delicious breakfast buffet, and a cafe that offered coffee, cold drinks and lunch options. The location is amazing - right next to the ancient Roman Theater and Arena. We had a lovely time in Arles!

Room Tip: The rooms off the courtyard would be quieter during the busy summer months.

My wife and I stayed a full week at Hotel Calendal (6/30/18 - 7/7/18) and it is a very nice hotel virtually in the center of the old town with a lovely heavily shaded interior courtyard.

The room (#45) had a magnificent view of the old Roman arena but was a bit Spartan with the basic needs of any hotel, definitely not luxurious but certainly functional. Dated bathroom with the only closet in the room could only open maybe 10 inches as the double bed was in the way of it fully opening. Curious that the hotel staff doesn't see that as a problem.

The air conditioning was a God send as Provence, in the summer, can be exceptionally hot! Cloudless blue skies every day but at times it was like walking on the sun. The AC unit never failed to provide respite from the daily heat or a comfortable nights sleep.

Although the staff was e x t r e m e l y friendly they were woefully uninformed about things to see or do in a town they had lived their entire lives in. The Sunday morning we awoke in Arles there was a spectacular event that the entire town was involved in where the ladies and men of Arles dressed up in 1890's clothes and paraded through the old city with some on horseback. Truly beautiful day long event, however when we asked the "concierge" what the event was for and why, they really had no answer other than to say Costume day in Arles and nothing more.

Arles is known for it's version of "bullfights" in the arena (its just a dangerous game of tag with the bull snatching ribbons from their foreheads) with absolutely no harm whatsoever occurring to the bulls. When we asked when the next series of fights were to happen they didn't know. That v e r y afternoon. . . . there were magnificent series of bullfights in the arena which we just happen to stumble onto on our own in the very arena that is 50 yards away from the hotel.

Arles is also known for the exploits of Van Gogh who lived there for a turbulent 15 months. I won't get into that other than to say they were ignorant of a Van Gogh walking tour that we again happened to stumble onto ourselves. Mind you, the Tourist Office located 500 meters away was a bit vexing at times as well. If you go to Arles, just be prepared with your own itinerary as the local Tourist Office along hotel staff can appear to be indifferent and uninformed on things to do or see.

Parking in an old town like Arles is confusing but the hotel had a nice arrangement with a large parking garage again about 500 meters from the hotel. It's best to follow their instructions and park there first and walk your baggage in. We took daily road trips on all points of the compass throughout Provence during our stay, and all options considered, it's very convenient and functional with plenty of parking spaces. The fee is discounted by the hotel too!

Full breakfast is available for 12 EURO each or a simple coffee, croissant and juice for 6 EURO.

With the only issue being about the staff being uninformed on things to do or see, which for me is hard to understand how they could be so lacking, we did enjoy our stay at Hotel Calendal. Having been to Europe many, many times we are comfortable with thinking on our feet and doing for ourselves in this regard.

We had originally booked in for 5 nights but due to our flight home being cancelled we needed a room for 2 extra nights. No easy for one of the busiest weekends in Arles. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful and for the extra 2 nights arranged for us to have an apartment a couple of doors from the hotel at the same rate.

As mentioned by other people, location perfect, air con very good, lovely shaded garden and very friendly staff.
