We were not aware that the family room for 4 people was actually in a separate building from the main hotel building. Was surprised when asked by the concierge to walk to the separate building by ourselves (she did give us general directions though).

It ended up safe, but mentally it may be nerve-wrecking to have to live in a separate building that looked slightly shabby both on the outside and inside, with the family room as the only room in that building. It was therefore quiet I'll give it that.

But the room was spacious (we were a family of three and this room was meant for four) and comfortable.

All was well, except that the staff did not replace the free water and tissue paper!

Dear Madam,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your stay in our home.

We are happy to see that overall your stay went well.

The family room you had during your stay indeed has it's own entrance but is part of the same building and is next to other rooms but we understand if you found it to be weird and we apologise for the inconvenience it may have caused. Unfortunately there isn't much we can do about it as that's the way the building is set up. I will tell my reception team to try and accompany you to that room when they can so that you can feel safer.

I hope we can have the pleasure to welcome you again on some other occasion and when you come back do not hesitate to ask us for the other family room we have or for a triple room, which are also very large and in the same part of the building as the main entrance!

Kind regards,

Gabriel Mewton,
Front desk manager.

This place had a great location, it is walking distance to city center (4 minute walk max), and only a 10 minute walk from the bus and train station. Unfortunately because it is on the main road, it was very very loud! We were in the front of the building and with our window open (and closed) we heard a motorized scooter every 2 minutes - and those things will definitely drive you nuts after awhile! The room itself was beautiful, spacious, and had a great wifi connection.

HOWEVER, the bathroom (while huge) smelled so bad of mold and we could not figure out what the source was since it looked clean and was a very modern/spacious bathroom. We informed the front desk as we were going out for the day and when we returned it definitely smelled a bit better but still not gone - I think it ended up being the shower curtain which needed to be replaced (they use fabric shower curtains which soak through when you shower rather than using a water repellant or plastic liner as they do in the U.S., but that's pretty common for Europe). The mold triggered my asthma which made it pretty hard to sleep and I actually ended up getting a cold that stuck with me for the next 3 weeks of my Eurotrip which was a huge bummer. Though I will say the front desk was very attentive and responsive (and all spoke very good English), and though they did not have an ice machine or for example they did provide us with a bowl of ice from their kitchen and a bottle opener so we could enjoy some local $3 wine in our room! Overall, it was a great place, and I'd stay again, hopefully the mold in our room was just a one-off thing!

Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and objective feedback.

We are happy to see that overall your stay went well and that you very much enjoyed our rooms and location in the heart of the city center.

We are sorry for the noise you experienced during your stay. All our rooms are equipped with double glazing windows which when they are closed properly usually work well, but we do admit that being in the city centre it is hard to avoid the loudest engine noises and we apologise. Do know that we have rooms that give on the back street of the hotel which is much quieter and we will be happy to provide you with one of them next time!

We are also sorry for the smell of mold in your bathroom. We have very recently bought new shower curtains and i will make sure that the housekeeping manager checks every room to make sure every single one is in a good state.

We will be happy to welcome you again on some other trip to Aix-en-Provence!

Kind regards,

Gabriel Mewton
Front desk manager.

The Hotel Artea is in a great location close to the Gare Routiere, the old town and all the major sites of Aix-en-Provence. The room was large and comfortable and quiet. The furnishings were a little bare, but they were functional and well maintained. The complimentary tea and coffee in the room were a welcome addition. I would stay here again.

This hotel was wonderfully located and was a good base to explore aix en provence. It probably deserves a "good" rating (rather than the average or very good offered on here).

It was a little dark and tired (a few maintenance issues in my room) but overall it was quiet and comfortable. Would stay again for the right price
